Per multiple sources, Clemson is set to hire Jacksonville State defensive line coach Todd Bates as its new defensive line coach.

Bates has worked the last three years at Jacksonville State.

Bates played for Alabama from 2001-05.

He played in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans as a defensive end for one year upon graduation from Alabama.

Bates will replace Marion Hobby, who left to coach the defensive line for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks, who retired.

Look for an official visit announcement in the coming days from Clemson on this hire.

Bates was recruited by Dabo Swinney to Alabama.

Clemson sure does love them Alabama football players for their coaches.

Maybe they're going to groom him to be the next coach after Dabo leaves.

Did Bates have to sit out a year at Bama for Testing positive for some banned substances? It was one of our D linemen.

It was Bates. He blamed it on cold medicine, and it actually could have been unintentional, but ephedrine was on the NCAA banned list.

Clemson was built by Bama.

Frank Howard(Bama G, 1928-30) HOF head coach & AD - brought them Howard's Rock and their field is named after him. He was an Alabama football player.

He coached for 30 years at Clemson, gave them 2 undefeated seasons, 2 Southern Championship & 6 ACC championships. He was their Bear Bryant.
--------------
Hootie Ingram (Bama DB, 1952-54) head coach - although he had a losing record, he is notable for having introduced the trademark "tiger paw" logo to Clemson. He was an Alabama football player.
--------------
Charlie Pell Bama G/DT 1960-62), head coach - helped Clemson win their first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship in 11 years, and compiled an 18–4–1 record. He also recruited many of the players who helped lead the Tigers to the national championship in 1981. He was an Alabama football player.

He left to coach Florida, but it emerged that Pell and his staff had committed major NCAA infractions in player recruiting, for which the NCAA placed the Clemson football program on two years' probation under the next coach's tenure......
--------------
Danny Ford (Bama OT, 1967-69), head coach - Clemson's first national championship coach. During his 12 seasons as head coach of the Clemson Tigers, he captured 5 ACC titles and won 6 bowl games. Ford's 1981 Clemson team completed a 12–0 season with a win in the Orange Bowl and was named the consensus national champion. He was an Alabama football player.
--------------
Dabo Swinney (Bama WR, 1990-92), current head coach - became head coach after longtime & Alabama born head coach Tommy Bowden retired. Clemson has steadily gotten better under Dabo, up to the point of playing for a national championship in the CFP in 2016 and again winning it in 2017. Clemson has won 2 ACC titles under Swinney. He was an Alabama player.

Out of their 22 conference titles, former Alabama players account for 17 to them.

Out of their 16 ACC titles, former Alabama players account for 15 of them.

Both their national championships was under the leadership of a former Alabama player.... Ford and Dabo.

2 of their famous traditions, Howard's Rock & the Tiger Paw was due to former Alabama players.

Holy shite! I know Todd. He's a great dude. He played with Prothro at Cleburne County and a pretty big reason he came TO Alabama. My brother was an all-state lineman for them and played with Prothro since they were freshman in HS. Very excited for him!

I've played basketball with all of them lol....of course they got dunked on.
