I don't think Houston is trying to keep them for 5 years they just cant have coaches jumping in year one or two.. I mean they can but at least they would get some money back out of the deal.

USF now most likely landing spot for Lane as a HC

Houston is a better job but USF sits in some pretty fertile recruiting territory.
And if that's not enough, the talent in the Tampa area is off the hook. Joey Freshwater would wreck shait in that environment.

Can't say I blame them for that

hmm. That wouldn't be too bad for him. He's a pretty good recruiter, and in South Florida, he could probably do well.

USF doesn't reside in South Florida. Common misconception. Tampa is central, right along the gulf coast. It was the fourth founded public school IIRC and below Tally/Gainesville so they named it South Florida. It's like thirty minutes south of UCF, Latitude wise. They have little to no hold on the actual south Florida recruiting scene, UCF has a bigger footprint of the local schools and they're behind the Big3.

I believe he is interested in being near his kids. Isn't Layla in California?

While Lane Kiffin remains a candidate at South Florida, he may not have an endorsement from a member of the current staff. David Reaves is the Bulls' associate head coach/tight ends coach. Reaves is also Kiffin's soon-to-be-former brother-in-law. Kiffin's wife, Layla, filed for divorce in March citing "irreconcilable differences." One source close to the South Florida search told CBS Sports "that well has been poisoned" in regards to Kiffin's candidacy at South Florida.

All this makes no sense. First, by all accounts Layla and Lane have a good relationship (as good as possible considering). Second, the better the job the better the Alimony & Child support. Surely ex bro in law (who Kiff gave a job at Tennessee) wants what's best for sister and nieces and nephew

Plus, it's hard seeing him stay on USF's staff. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move to Oregon or be asked to go somewhere else by a new coach.
