That is a strange start time. In all honesty, I don't ever remember seeing a 5:00 start time.

I'm guessing there's a big west coast game ESPN wants that night

I vaguely remember one back in the late 2000's I think that was 5 or 530. Here are the rest of the games start times

11 a.m. (ESPN) - Georgia at Ole Miss
11 a.m. (SEC Network) - Kent St. at Alabama
2:30 p.m. (CBS) - Florida at Tennessee
2:30 p.m. (ESPN3) - Mississippi St. at UMass
3 p.m. (SEC Network) - Delaware St. at Missouri
3:30 p.m. (CBS Sports Network) - Vanderbilt at Western Kentucky
5 p.m. (ESPN) - LSU at Auburn
6:30 p.m. (SEC Network) - South Carolina at Kentucky
8 p.m. (ESPN) - Arkansas at Texas A&M (in Arlington, Texas)

Anybody remember the last time Bama kicked off at 11am?

2014, Florida Atlantic
2013, Georgia State (11:21 - was the old start time, before ESPN took over)
2012, Western Carolina
2011, Kent State

Think they just wanted both the LSU/Auburn and Arkansas/A&M matchups in the evening.

I knew they had in the past, didn't think it was that recent. I'm getting old.

Arky and Texas A&M will have to be on ESPNNews for a while. No way we play in 3 hours on ESPN.

I have no idea why the try to schedule so tightly and then cram the game with commercials. You can't fit it all in 3 hrs.

Happened to us against Clemson game this year. UGA-UNC game started at 5 and ran over. The first 1/2 of the 1st quarter was on ESPN U or something.

You could fit it in three hours IF,

1. Referees tell tv when play will start rather than vice versa. NFL does it this way.

2. Halftime reduced to 12 minutes from 20.

3. Adopt NFL style replay based on coaches challenges. The HC are paid enough to figure this out. The reviews are very long.

If not tv should do 4 hour Windows
