“I am not a SME on knee injuries. So I don’t know if that guy is going to be back or not,” Smart said. “Do I want him to be back? Yes. But it’s hard to say with where he is now whether he’ll be back or not.”

Is there really a question on whether he's returning or not, or is this coach speak?

He's running drills and practicing without a knee brace and probably back to around 80-90%.

I don't think there's a question he will be back 100% by UNC. CKS is just playing his best Saban impersonation.

Not a chance. He's not allowed to any kind of contact and violent cutting yet.

I think it's a legitimate question. Everyone though Mitchell would be back at the start of 2014, but he had a setback.

I hope when he said "back" he meant by the UNC game and not back ever. But who knows. I don't think Chubb will have any of the mental tentativeness of other athletes who have had injuries (Marshall), just because he is that tough.

As much as I love Chubb, Sony became my favorite player last year when he stepped in and became a workhorse.

I agree and SM's thickened a lot since he arrived in Athens. I think he'll have a banner season in '16. I just want Chubb out there as well if he's healthy.

If Chubb plays before the the 4th game I will be very surprised. Running drills is nowhere near taking a full speed hit while cutting. Chubb is getting his muscle strength back but I doubt he is beyond 70% back right now.

Sony can play and he definitely carried the load last year...but he's still 600 yards short of what Chubb has from scrimmage.

Sony is a very good player. Chubb is a different animal altogether. If knee is ok he's in the HW, Hearst, TG3 category.

Later on in that article it talked about how Chubb is staying for the maymester and summer, so that he can work out with Courson and crew the whole time. I keep telling y'all he is going to be back. He is just a complete freak when it comes to this stuff.

Here's the way I look at it.

He got hurt on October 10th, so roughly 6 months ago. Obviously there's an initial period of evaluation and rest, followed by surgery, followed by more rest. So he hasn't even been rehabbing but what..maybe 4 months? And look how far he's come. In just 4/5 months he had made an absurd amount of progress, like an almost unbelievable amount. Our first game is roughly 5 months from now. Just based on what we've seen and know, I would be pretty amazed if he can't do in the next 5 months what he's done in the last 5.

Now, he may be a little jittery mentally and that's understandable. But just health wise, it seems like everythign would point to him being ready way before game 4. IMO.

I don't know whether this or finding out Prince died is the most depressing thing from today.

1st game is in 19 weeks. Thats enough of time to get the strength back.

Chris Childers had a fantastic point, on Monday. tOSU, UGA AND Bama's spring games brought in over 275k people to meaningless scrimmages. The demand for spring football is alive and well. That's when the Group of Five needs to play. They could have their own tv deals on the P5 networks.

Don't misread my quote. I love Chubb and think he is the better back. He has proven that. Stating Sony is my "favorite" does not mean I think he is better.

I just admire him carrying the load after Chubb went out, with no real significant back to rotate carries with.

Chubb is my favorite for how he carried the load when Gurley was suspended. Chubb emerged as a genuine rival to Gurley and Walker.

I gained a lot of respect for Sony during that Missouri game. He earned every yard gained that evening. Was banged up too if I remember correctly
