Lived in Alabama my entire life (granted I lived in lower Alabama Fairhope/Gulf Shores area) and will be moving for a promotion with my company to the Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Panama City area. Anyone have suggestions on the best city to live in and how it is? I was hired after graduating from Alabama as an accountant and head manager of my assigned account. I will be a General Manager over multiple accounts now. Money will be easier on me as well so I should be good to finance a 350-500k dollar house now since we are settling down. All suggestions are appreciated.

First, congrats on securing a career in a region with the nicest beaches around and one of the worst job markets as wells. (Speaking from experience)

With that said, I highly recommend you keep in mind that the traffic on the beaches is a MOFO during the summer so you may consider that when buying a house. Also 350-500k won't get you much in destin these days considering what 500k could buy in Lower Alabama.

I would look in the Miramar Beach area personally.

Congrats!

It has been a long time since I was down there, but I always remember Destin being much nicer than PC.

Only you know what is best for you, but if I were in your shoes, I would choose to live closer to the Pensacola Beach/Navarre communities (which are located on Santa Rosa Island, southeast of the City of Pensacola) and commute to work from there. That way you're near enough to work, always near the beach outside of work, and still close enough to a real city (Pensacola). In the grand scheme of things, the City of Pensacola isn't the greatest city in the world, but it does have a decent Gulf Coast-style bar/party scene (while not as good of a bar district or Mardi Gras as Mobile or New Orleans, it is still respectable).

They're building some badass townhomes on 30A across from Watersound. Starting at 350K I think. We toured them, they're beautifully done

The bizzaro world of Florida! Girlfriend of mine from college moved there after graduation. She sells real estate now in the Destin and Ft Walton areas. She loves it.

Pics. JK. seriously, though, it's probably like shooting fish in a barrel, especially if she's good looking.

The area is known as Lower case Alabama, so you are good.

Try Defuniak Springs, place is a jewel in the area.

I lived in bay county for 6 years, loved it.

It would depend on where the majority of your accounts are, but as far as nice family atmosphere at an affordable price, Lynn Haven is hard to beat. Small town on the bay with a good mixture of affordable and ballin homes, not a lot of riff raff. 30A is great, but expensive and not really close to anything (though it is central to your territory)

Destin and PCB are both clusterfricks now. Avoid Callaway, Bayou George, Panama City, Millville and the like. For the money Lynn Haven is hard to beat and where I would look first if I were moving back (I would in a heartbeat)

I'll pass. I have an agricultural account there, Chipley, and Bonifay.

I was going to say Lynn Haven or Niceville. Niceville used to have really good schools. Not sure if they still do. Friend taught there for a few years about 20 years ago.
