I am a slight fan of them, but come on ? Really? They are ahead of Baylor, Florida, TCU? Really?

We all know they are going to choke soon.

and I bet you they then drop in the rankings. Odd how that happens, it's like these things aren't written in stone or something.

They need to join a conference with the current playoff system being 4 teams.

There are only 4 spots and 5 power conferences. When you throw in ND anytime they only have 1 loss which the media always will, you are down to 3 spots for 5 power conferences champs to fight over.

I won't even get started on the committee... The fact that it went from computers to humans simply gauruntees the ability fo fulfill any agenda/scenario big money wants

Their signature win is a close loss to Clemson.

Their schedule forgives them for not being in a conference, IMO.

If they were in a conference, they'd have 4 non-conference games (maybe 1 with a pulse), 3 conference games against chumps, 3 decent games and 2 good games.

Their schedule this year

Big 12 chump
ACC mid-level
ACC mid-level
ACC power
Non-Power 5 chump
Non-Power 5 decent team
Pac 12 mid-level
Non-power 5 decent team
ACC top level
ACC chump
ACC chump
Pac 12 power

UMass is literally the only team they played that is on the same level as most Power 5 teams' non-conference schedule.

The Selection committee is a JOKE... the OLD BCS formula was much better... Take the top 4... The committee favors the old school blue bloods...

They paid off the committee. They're always paying off people.

Tis almost as ridiculous as Bama being #4. What a crock of crap!

1) I hate the bastards. Hate them.

2) They deserve to be #5 ... about as much as Bama deserves to be #4 ... which is to say ... not at all.

3) That being said, I begrudgingly give them credit ... they could have folded after Malik Zaire went down. They have played a legit sked ... and only have a close loss on the road to Clemson ... in SHITTY weather.

4) One could argue that ND should be ranked higher than Bama ... their loss was by less points ... on the road.

Notre Dame is better than most of them though. They have 2 point loss on the road vs the #1 team and have lost a slew of starters this year. In case you didn't realize, they are playing with their backup RB (who was 3rd string in the spring when Golson was there), their backup RB (who was actually 3rd string and a DB turned WR, turned RB), their starting NB, their starting TE (ND loves using their TEs), their starting DT, and their backup safety.

Where would Bama be without QB Coker, RB Henry, TE Howard, NB Minkah, whoever their DT is, and whoever their best rotating safety is?

Where would LSU be without QB Harris, RB Fournette, (we already lost TE Gordon), NB Thomas, DT Godchaux, and S Jefferson (who was our rotating safety before Mills was hurt in fall practice)?

Florida already lost QB Grier, but what about losing RB Taylor, TE McGee, DT Bullard, NB Poole, and whoever their rotating safety is?

Are they championship caliber, who knows? They are better than several undefeated teams though.

Right. They just waited until the NC to choke, in that case.
