An Auburn fan in response to me calling JJ's accuracy inconsistent:

quote:

Inconsistent at best? What are you basing this on?

An I had said:

quote:

Film. With everyone anointing him a pre-season heisman contender, and knowing LSU plays AU early, I took the time to really watch him. It's my opinion, but he is not nearly as accurate as this board or the media has made him out to be. He throws some good balls, which is why I called him inconsistent instead of bad, but there are a lot of throws on his film that will be picks against good coverage. Again, I think he's being annointed because of Gus's track record with QBs more so than his actual arm talent. I don't expect Auburn to be night and day in the air like some are calling for, a lot of yall took Nick Marshall for granted as a passer.

As you can see, I was wrong. It's not so much an accuracy issue, as he just can't read a defense to save his fricking life, and has some rare disease that makes safeties disappear. I apologize to the Auburn fanbase. My bad.

If you include all the completions to the defensive backs, he probably has the highest completion percentage in the SEC..

seems to be more like LBs or anyone sitting in the middle of the field

Congrats. You should print this out and show it to your mom. She'll put it on the fridge, I bet.

My family doesn't tolerate failure in the house. This is a thread about how wrong I was. In fact, several Auburn fans laughed at me in that thread and in others were I said similar things. Consider this my personal apology to them.

Some good quotes in there

quote:

Inconsistent at best? What are you basing this on? Most people say he's the best Auburn QB in 25 years outside of Cam. Malzahn loves him and consistently said last year he has the best back up QB in all of college and he could start for 10 SEC teams as a sophomore. Gus just doesn't say those types of things.

quote:

Gus will tool this offense with JJ in mind this year which should be potent.

Is this the standard "I look like a dumb arse and have no rebuttal" response?

Auburn fans refuse to believe what is in front of their faces.

I posted this in 2012:

quote:

The series beginning at 6:05 was disasterous. Indecisive on the read option, terrible throw on the pass, confused by the buzz zone. I'm a bit concerned.

Obviously. My points remain that this seems like the Kodi Burns story 2.0

Kiehl as a true freshmen did not look good passing the ball. Based solely on what I saw, granted there were not that many attempts (thankfully in my view), it would be an upset if he became a proficient passer. He might. I think the other way is most likely.

SEASON CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2011 5 12 34 41.7 2.83 14 0 2 2 32.1

His rushing stats were also paltry. Consider he was sacked only twice for minus 8 yards. Here is his split.

att yds ypc lng tds
76 327 4.3 22 3

One would expect with his raw tools, running a primarily read run package that was likely put in just for him, with Dyer and OMac to take primary attention from the defense, if he made good decisions his numbers would have been much more impressive. The clip I posted earlier was a sample of what happened most times he was on the field. To throw two picks on 12 attempts when defenses expect you to run when you are in the ball game is not a good sign.

I thought Moseley was going to win that battle, to be honest.

The Auburn fans, predictably, would not yield in their assertion that he would be the savior.

FTR, I've watched him closely this year and I think this is premature simply because he had made no such attempt yet.

Even on his completed passes he doesn't seem to look at the coverages. He handles the snap, sets, and throws to a predetermined receiver. He may see a cb playing on the receiver, but he never looks at lbs or safeties in coverage.

I think there are 3 plays where he has thrown to a secondary receiver and I think on all 3 the primary was covered well by the cb and it had nothing to do with seeing the lb and/or safety coverage.

My hope is that nerves and pressing caused this, but my fear is that he just hasn't ever done it before and our lbs are so bad in coverage it hasn't shown up in practice.

I think you're on to something. He's been throwing to Duke and Coates basically his whole practice career with really no one who could cover them.

I'm hoping everything is just moving too quickly for him as this is the first time in a while he has been the man. Once the game starts slowing down for him, maybe he will see the field better and go through progressions. Or, maybe he just doesn't have the ability.
