Hockman and crew laying the wood to the Tigers.

Looks like backups for McE for the second half.

You know you're having a good night when your QB completes 2 passes on one play.

Sam Jackson, the small McEachern RB commited to Georgia Southern, has been putting on a show.

I played at McEachern and graduated in 88. We were ranked #1 in the State but got the brake shoes beaten off of us in the quarterfinals by Morrow...who won the 87 title. Andre Hastings was a sophomore WR on their team and he made my best friend who was our free safety look like a middle schooler all night.

Aside from the 91 team that lost to eventual State champion Lagrange in double OT in the semi-finals, this is the most talented team MHS has ever fielded. The 98 team that lost to Valdosta in the State title game was very good as well but 91 had more talent.

I was the HC/OC of the 8th grade team at MHS for 12 years but hung it up due to a growing family in 04. I tried like heck to promote a UGA to my former players who were highly touted seniors but Donnan nor Goff before him never recruited our guys. Watched my former players go to UT, Auburn, Arkansas, Miss State, GT, Clemson, USCe, Vandy, Duke, etc, again and again.

I am so glad we finally opened a pipeline to MHS. Most of my former asst coaches are still coaching the 7th and 8th grade teams there and swear to me that their middle school talent level is stronger than ever.

I moved to very West Ga a few years back but still stay in touch with those guys regularly. Meanwhile, my kids have grown enough for me to become the one community coach on our local AA middle school team. What a contrast in numbers and resources! And to boot, we are a Wishbone/triple option(GT style)/mid line and inside outside veer combo offense where the backside scoop (cut) block is a staple.

McEachern had some crazy good teams in that era. There was a RB named Corey Holmes who was pretty amazing. Had hoped he would go to UGA back in the day.

Corey is an assistant coach on the 7th grade team. The spring training entering my senior year, he was the first player ever at MHS to participate in spring training as an 8th grader. I can still see his eyes as big as silver dollars when he was put into the huddle to run on our 1st O/1st D scrimmage. Corey was scared to death but as usual, once he got hit a few times he was good to go. I was the permanent offensive captain my senior year and many a time had to tell him and our sophomore FB their assignment on a given play.

Corey was on some talented teams during HS. Adam Meadows(UGA), Jimmy Clements(GT) , Marcus Hinton(Clemson) Stephen Johnson(UT) to name a few.

Corey started coaching as my RB coach my last year there.

Hokeman is a better QB than Eason.

If we don't sign him he will end up at UT, SC, or Bama.

That guy is a stud. Smooth as silk and throws a very nice ball. WINNER

Who the hell is Hokeman? Hockman is a very good QB but whether of not he is better than Eason is not apparent. Eason goes through his progressions better but Hockman is a better mover. Both have strong arms with quick releases.

Hockman is a hell of a QB no doubt about it but you should go back and watch Eason on tape. Eason goes thru 2 or 3 progressions on almost every single play. That is some high level stuff for a young qb. Huston Mason rarely went thru more than 2 progressions as a 5th year senior. Eason is a damn beast and will be a good one and Hockman is absolutly a slick QB with a great arm. Love them both.

Hokeman's "it" factor rating is off the charts. It'd be nice to see some of it in Athens wearing red and black.

Others with a similar rating...

Tanneyhill
Johnny Ball
Jay Barker
Peyton Manning
Wuerful
Montana
Namath
Stabler
Staubach
Flutie

I played for Effingham county and we lost to Morrow for the State title in'87. Andre made our safeties look stupid also. If I remember correctly, he scored all three touchdowns for them.....we lost 21-0. Also in 91 we lost to Lagrange in the quarter finals

I went down to your game against Morrow. They had Jeff Howard at QB who ended up backing up Sean Jones at GT and that bruiser FB Ray Doran. We took Morrow lightly. They had lost to McIntosh earlier in the season and we thought we would ease by them to the semis. Derek Anderson and myself were coin flip captains that game and I will never forget going out to mid field for the flip. Jeff Howard was a captain for a Morrow and was wearing a long john undershirt cut by scissors at the elbow. The other dude was a ginger stocky guy who played DE. I was thinking "man, we are about to roll these rednecks up."

It was 28-0 before we knew what hit us! We had 12 yards rushing the first half and scored with a few seconds on a pass to make it 28-7 at the half. They shut us down so good that at halftime Coach Dorsey moved me from OG to center because all we did was shotgun the whole 2nd half and I was the punt/FG snapper. Ended up losing 49-21 but threw for 250 in the second half by putting our 6' 5" baseball ace, Chris Butler, at QB. Had we started out that way we might have had a fighting chance. I also went and watched them play SW Dekalb in the semis. That was a great game I think they won 14-10 or something like that.

That 91 Lagrange team was very good but Rodney Hudson was why they won a State title. He was a hell of a playmaker and beat us on a broken play in double OT. Had them beat on penetration and they had the ball 3rd and 15 at mid field with 1:15 on the clock. One stop. Joker rolls left and all his receivers were also left. Our stud LB Carlos Bagley(Duke) came from his backside and looked like he was about to decapitate Hudson when he stopped on a dime and ducked under Carlos' sack attempt that would have put them at 4th and 23. Reversed field and ran right by me on our sideline and was never touched. Our entire DB field was in coverage on the far side of the field.

I won't go as far to say Bailey is better than Eason. I will say that since I started coaching football in 89, he has the strongest arm of any Georgia HS QB I have personally seen since Eric Zeier at Marietta. When he was a freshman, I thought his arm was probably comparable to what Staffords was as a HS freshman. Whether he or Eason are better, we are sitting pretty at QB if Baileys commit sticks.

I was waaay wrong with my statement about losing to Lagrange... We never played Lagrange, it was Griffin and it was 1990.
