A recruit was told Razorback Stadium is expanding to 90,000 seats.

Holy shite. No way we will ever fill that up.

Will we?

It has to be a phased approach.

But then again, in 2000 we added 20k seats all at once. Four-laning Razorback Rd is underway, and Stadium drive is being straightened out to make it a direct route to MLK. There is supposed to be massive parking construction west of Razorback Road soon, too. I would think 80,000 would be a good number for us.

Some people have said they think he misheard, was likely 80K or closer to that than 90K.

How ever many seats it takes to allow bowling in the NEZ to add Luxury Suites atop is how many will be added...

Its all about selling the boxes, for a premium as a waiting list will still be long even after this addition.

They're currently destroying 16 houses to make a roundabout at the intersection next to the softball field.

They're also making a roundabout at the intersection of Stadium drive and Center street. It's been a 4-way stop for centuries.

Are they tearing down all those houses on the little cut through there?

That sucks, the little houses clumped right next to the stadium was something you don't see anywhere else.

Yeah they will really help traffic flow once people get used to them.

I posted this in the recruiting thread when this subject came up:

I think ~80k in a smart capacity model is a good size given the size of our fan base, though the expansion to the NEZ will be all club seats, which we don't have a problem filling.

I know it'd never happen, but one thing I wish we'd do is to remove the upper deck bleachers on the East side -- the setting sun in an afternoon game is brutal -- and replace that with like 6 to 8 rows of chair back seating, similar to those Pig Heaven seats on the rim of both the East and West upper decks. It seems like the upper deck corners are almost always empty unless there's a really hot ticket game (e.g. Alabama 2010, LSU 2014). Maybe a way to address that would be to reduce capacity up there and replace it with quasi-premium seating. My season tix were in East upper deck before moving to South Indoor Club a few years ago. The view is worse but the comfort level and experience are far and away better, especially with a 3 year old in tow.

Either way, I like that the expansion plan Long set forth a few years ago as part of the Facilities Master Plan was well-thought out and not just a blind reach to add capacity. They understood that the best way to add capacity was to add premium, in demand seating as opposed to just throwing more bleachers in.

I'd be happy staying around 75k, if they'd make the upper decks roomier or all chairbacks. Give people a reason to want to sit up there.
