I know he is coming off an injury, but why play him if he was down upon contact. Never seen that done for a RB, did Saban explain what purpose it served ?

Probably because Alabama has like 3 running backs right now.

Because he's not your typical RB.

That's a trait who want your RB to get use to. Will the OL start wearing black jerseys next ?

Why play him ? I assume he knows the plays well enough, and it doesn't help the defense in any way.

Yes I have, and you either play hurt or not at all. I have never seen or heard of a RB play with a non-contact jersey during a full scrimmage. But I am sure with all your athletic background, you can give me tons of examples.

I agree. It doesn't make any sense.

I'm guessing because Saban wanted to reward him for doing the right things during spring without risking injury. Drake is super competitive, and if he pulls himself together he could be a leader for this team. I am sure Drake preferred the non contact jersey to not playing at all.

Drake will also be playing some WR this year. I'm sure they wanted to get him a few snaps at the various positions.

Getting full speed reps in a game-like situation is part of the rehab.
