Man this sucks. Met him a few times when we were at Auburn together.

Does anybody know the story to why Tubs replaced Rob with Duval?

Rob was a really good guy. We were neighbors at the CDV Extension and then shared an apartment at College Park (the old one) the next year.
He came from Kentucky and walked on. Got the starting job I want to say our junior year. He had a dust up with Tubbs. Tubbs kicked off a lot of walk ons and friends of his, I don't know what happened and never really asked but I think Rob was mad at the time. Actually Tubbs kicked off Damon Duval who was the backup, then Rob, then reinstated Duval.
That's how he ended up at Georgia Southern but I think he always loved Auburn. Who wouldn't. I was on a trip with Tubbs in Dallas and he took me and another guy to dinner on a trip one night, he found out who my old roommates were, gave me a mean stare. Not sure what Rob did.
Perseverance paid off for Rob, he worked hard and landing a NFL job did not come easy. He tried out for GB, still had a pic of him in that uniform which blew my mind. And then he had a memorable moment as a Tampa Bay pk and derped a preseason kickoff, we all had gotten together to watch it on tv and it was a sad little moment. He tripped and fell but still hit the ball and it went 10 yards. I thought would ruin his chances for good. But he didn't quit.
Then he made the Titans and flat out owned place kicking in the NFL for a while. How awesome.
He was a good guy with a big and good heart, liked to be a goof ball, would've been a great Aubbie. Sad day.
I'll always remember hanging out at the CDVs talking about our dreams and his of being the Auburn kicker. I hadn't talked to him since he made the Titans so I guess almost ten years now or so.
I was going to wait til the NFL thing was done and just touch base and tell him how proud I was of all he accomplished. I guess you should never wait on things like that.
War Eagle.

Thanks for sharing about Rob as a person.
It is always sad for someone so young to die. I know he was married, not sure if he had kids. Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

I saw that on twitter early this morning. Very very sad. Just got married to Terry Bradshaws daughter in June.
I am sorry for the Bironas and Bradshaws. Another Tiger in heaven.

My little brother snapped for him at Auburn. I haven't had a chance to talk to him today.

Wow what a post. Bravo sir.
I'll always be fond of the memories Rob gave me watching the Titans play. He made me proud even though he didn't claim Auburn as his former school.
