Perno left the cupboard pretty bare for Stricklin. He'll be good after a recruiting class or two. The team wasn't good but showed promise. Took series from A&M and South Carolina during the season. So there's something there he just didn't have much to work with.

One of my roommate's friends went on and on one day about how bad our baseball program sucked and how KSU's program was far superior with vastly more talent. While knowing this was true, I had enough of it after a while.

I explained to him that KSU had never done a damn thing in the postseason and less than a decade ago we were stalwarts in NCAA tourney with a 2nd place finish. I told him while they may have had more talent, most of that was due to us not being able to get our more talented guys actually on campus (MLB draft). I told him that in a 3 game series with each team's top 3 pitchers throwing (not a BS midweek game) that I wasn't convinced they could take 2 of 3 from us. i told him they played in the Atlantic Sun or some bullshite conference while the SEC was annually one of the top NCAA baseball conferences.

Yes, I was talking out of my arse, but I actually had this guy backpedaling: "Well, I didn't know all that about our signees. I didn't even know how successful we were a few years before I got to Athens (it was his 3rd year in Athens and my 8th, so Gordon Beckham, Josh Fields, etc. were in my time)."

I concluded by saying that until KSU made some postseason noise against a team from a legitimate conference, then they would never be superior in my eyes.

UGA, Tech, the GSU twins, etc. better get used to KSU winning. In a county with over 700,000 people, in a hotbed of baseball, KSU is on the rise. Across the board they can't compete right now, but baseball and women's soccer should be dominant sports for them.
