This is assuming 3 things.

1. Matthews, Joeckel, and Moore all return.

2. All of our current commits sign, enroll, and qualify when they are supposed to.

3. Kohl Stewart will be a MLB first round pick.

First of all, attrition:

In addition to the seniors who graduate and have used up their eligibility, here is my best guess at the attrition/redshirting of current players:

-I assume Jameill Showers will transfer. He is too good of a player to be 2nd string. If he's got his bachelor's already, he can go the Russell Wilson route and make a (non-SEC) team very happy.

-Kenny Hill will redshirt

-White will likely redshirt

-Nate Askew will either redshirt or transfer to an FCS school. He still hasn't cracked the 2 deep after 3 seasons.

-Thomas Johnson will most likely take a year off then come back in 2014 (like Ben Bass did). He needs to get right.

-Of the receivers, I think only Echols-Luper (possibly Tabuyo depending on the knee) redshirts.

-I don't see how Garrett Gramling makes the 2-deep at guard. Not sure if he comes back.

-At least two of the offensive linemen recruits redshirt. Of the four, Stuckey is the most likely to play.

-Rhontae Scales apparently was part of the senior day festivities and will graduate this academic year.

-None of the defensive tackles will redshirt. We need all of them.

-Between Points and Arnold, at least one will shirt.

-Michael Richardson will have to redshirt next season. Spinal surgery is no joke.

-Doubtful that any of the linebackers redshirt.

-Don't know if Desmond Gardiner will return. Only seen him on special teams all three years he's played.

-Don't know if Clay Honeycutt or Johntel Franklin will see the field next season. No way that any of the DB recruits redshirt. We need every one of them.

As far as the 2-deep:

QB: Manziel, Davis
HB: Malena/B-Williams, T-Williams
TE/FB: Clear/Hicks, Carson
WR: Evans, Pope
WR: Kennedy, Gonzalez
WR: D-Walker, Tabuyo
WR: Seals-Jones, Adeboyejo
LT: L-Joeckel, Stuckey
LG: Harrison, Klinke
C: M-Matthews, Compton
RG: Ogbuehi, Ifedi
RT: J-Matthews, Cheek

WDE: Moore, Alexander
DT: Ennis, Robinson
NT: Golden, Huggins/Hatten
SDE: Obioha, Stansbury
WOLB: Jenkins, E-Williams
MLB: Baggs, Flowers
SOLB: Richmond, Wade
CB: Everett, Ellis
CB: Harris, Jacobs
FS: H-Matthews, Raven
SS: Hurd, Miles
P: Kaser
K: Bertolet

Not my thoughts but here are Kirk Bohls (Austin American Statesman) on A&M next year:

One crazy prediction: If DE Damontre Moore (doubtful), OT Luke Joeckel (possible) and OT Jake Matthews (likely) all return to school, Texas A&M will be the preseason No. 1 team in the nation.]

I think that 2 deep is pretty reasonable, I image there will be one or two surprises with guys stepping up and taking away a starting job.

I'm also willing to bet that Manning is part of our DT/NT rotation.

I disagree with a bunch of your assumptions and who would play where, etc, but it's all speculation til we know who's even on the roster. However, you are leaving off a couple of guys that are redshirting this season that will likely play key roles (Polo, Marshall) and one that is going to change positions and may walk straight into a starters role.

Spring ball will be interesting this year. This season we played the hand we were dealt but now the whole coaching staff has had a chance to truly evaluate all these guys, get their schemes in line, and figure out what parts they already have and what they need where vs the SEC.

See, that's the thing. I don't know where Polo would go. Is he a DE or a DT? As far as Marshall, he had a pretty serious injury that required him to redshirt.

Who do you have changing positions?

As far as redshirts:

QB: Davis (backup if Showers transfers)
RB: Williams and Carson (already there)
WR: Pope (not sure where he fits or if he goes back to DB)
OL: Ifedi and Tipoti (not sure where they fit on the 2-deep)
DL: Polo (not sure if he's a DT or DE), Alexander (already there)
LB: Taylor (not sure if he's spun down to end), Richmond (already there)
DB: Marshall (shoulder injury in the spring)
P: Kaser (already there)

Marshall is probably the leading candidate to start alongside Matthews at S. Hurd is a hard working kid but he simply lacks the physical skills necessary to be an every down player at safety against most teams. That's gotta play out in the spring but I expect Marshall to step into that role. If not we probably slide Everett over and one of the true fish CBs starts. I know they'd prefer to keep Everett at corner but it's an option in a pinch if others aren't getting it. I hope Raven breaks thru but so far he's not looking like a good fit anywhere. But others have seemed that way at times in the past only to make a sudden, massive step forward (Terrell, Stewart, Moore, Matthews) and he definitely has talent.

I'd guess Polo is going to land at DT. Also, you left off Alonzo Williams who has pushed his way ahead of, or at least even with, Stansbury. I think we probably only play 2 DTs from this class as we can get by with Ennis, Polo + 2 true Fish. That's what I'd prefer at least because they may need a year to just get physically ready for this level. Chances are some will come in ready and some won't. And it helps space them out class wise

Both Taylors are probably WDEs but I've heard very little of them under this new staff. Sherm's crew loved them. I'm just not sure the new staff has figured out exactly how to make use of them as Tyrell played less and less as the season went on.

Sumlin said he expects Thomas Johnson back for at least some of the bowl practices.

That's great news if true. I assumed the worst.

Good read. Sounds good to me other than the first assumption. I say there's a 5% chance Moore or Joeckel return. Joeckel's name is coming up as a potential number 1 pick and Moore is being talked about as the best DE option.

If you said Moore and Joeckel, I'd agree, but supposedly Damonster has told recruits that he is staying.

Great post. The depth on defense will be key.

Offense:
I cant picture Joeckel coming back and if he leaves i think matthews slides to LT and either Cheek or Ifedi start at RT

I really hope Thomas Johnson comes back and joins RSJ, Evans and Kennedy. Also, i didnt see D Griffen on WR list and that would make a scary WR core if it works out

Defense:
I believe the key to a GREAT season rests with Damontre coming back. He is a game changer

Justin manning and Zadarius smith would crack the 2 deep on Dline if either commits. Also, Polo should be in DE rotation. Hopefully the Taylor brothers develop there as well.

At LB i could see Mike Mitchell or Isaac Sav(if either commits) seeing significant time at MLB

Marshall, Raven or Miles hopefully step up and take the other safety spot next to H Matthews. Tony hurd looks more like a back up and not an SEC DB
