Arkansas at one time had a top 25 undergrad business school and top 50 graduate program.

I know Texas is top 5-7 or so.

Mizzou is good for writing for your local paper.

Not sure about their other degrees.

Is Vanderbilt really that much better than Texas?

The University of Texas is a really good school. And if an instate resident, the value is obviously there vs a private school.

Missouri is #124 in the latest US News rankings. Clearly, AAU membership should be reviewed.

South Carolina is #118. Tennessee is #112.

Damn, Missouri. Welcome to our Tier.

Sorry, we're a premier AAU university. The big 4 (Missouri, A&M, Vandy, and Florida) are doing great things in the world when it comes to research. Maybe you guys should hold yourselves to higher standards and try to climb up?

Founded in 1900, the Association of American Universities is composed of America’s leading research universities. AAU’s 66 research universities transform lives through education, research, and innovation. Our universities earn the majority of competitively awarded federal funding for academic research and are educating tomorrow’s visionary leaders and global citizens.

It would be for the better good of the conference.

This. And US News "rankings" are a joke.

You have a good j-school for the leftists infesting your campus, sure, but Missouri is simply not on the same plane as Florida and Georgia.

As I understand this AAU thing, if you do not have a medical school under the flag of the University it makes it very difficult to be considered for AAU status. A number of schools in the SEC do not have a medical school attached to them. The state medical school operates under its' own President and is not attached to the University in question.

When all is said and done, do you get more research dollars, in various other departments, if you are AAU? If a University is AAU because of research in the medical or engineering school how does that translate to the quality of classroom instruction at the undergraduate level??

The fact of the matter is the school doesn't make the person and if anybody thinks attending any school in the SEC gives them a disadvantage then that's just ridiculous... well maybe the Mississippi schools.
