I doubt this happens but Finebaum did have really good point on Texas and OU to the SEC.

He basically said that most of the SEC may not want them in the league but it sounds like they both want out of the Big 12 and if the SEC doesn’t take them then someone else will. He made a good point because if you put Texas and OU in the PAC 12 then that league moves to second in the conference rankings overnight. And if they got really crazy and took another team or two from somewhere that’s solid programs then they could make a big push to the front. By doing this deal the SEC locks up number 1 in the conference rankings overnight. And with the playoff expansion this could set up SEC dominance for years to come. Even though most of us may not like the move.

Sec would be better off with Eastern teams.
OU and sip in the pac with late night games won’t have the impact they think

I mean I guess it comes down to if you want to play these teams every year in the regular season, or some years in the playoffs.
One dominant conference, but (even more) difficult to get out of alive, and the winner is almost assured to win it all.
More even conferences, with a regular season similar to now, but potentially more difficult games in the playoffs.
Don't know the answer, but it would certainly make it harder for a cinderella SEC team to pull off a natty if the conference got even more brutal than it already is.

To be honest - I agree with Paul here.
Texas and OU to the sec would be cool for those respective fanbases, but all of this talk is far more indicative of the big 12 being on its death bed. I’m fine with it either way because I at least know that Texas (and OU and maybe Kansas) will land on its feet in any conference/being independent with the resources they have. The rest of the big 12… I’m not so sure.
Personally, I would love everything about the Pac-12 except for the fact that I don’t want to be watching Texas football until 1:30 am CST

Looks like Paul got the talking points from Sankey and ESPN.

Put them in the Pac 16. It wouldn’t be bad for the SEC to have someone in the conversation for second best other than the B1G.

I'd rather see them go to the PAC 12. Don't care if it gets stronger.

Not a bad point. A problem I have, among others, with adding a team like Oklahoma into the "Southeastern" Conference is that Oklahoma is not geographically located in the Southeast. Seems like a joke of a name at that point.

College football is already dying a slow death of becoming a regional interest sport. IMO Texas and OU to the Pac 12 is better for everyone in CFB.
The SEC and Southeastern ACC programs can't be the only succesful programs forever and expect the sport to survive.
The Big 10 and Pac NEED to get back in the picture or college football will die. Giving the Pac 12 UT and OU as a shot in the arm to get the western half of the country to paying attention again seems like a solid move.

Georgia tech and Virginia tech would get my vote for additions to the conference. Very successful programs at times throughout their history and fit the conference geographically. State of Georgia should have 2 teams in the conference imo.

The window on these schools moving to the Pac has closed. Larry Scott is on the way out, and the school presidents have soured on expansion. If this is about a race to 16, then you'd be talking about OU, Texas, and 2 other schools going to the Pac (likely OSU and Texas Tech), which would result in the league being split into East and West divisions. That would basically separate the Arizona schools, Colorado, and Utah from the founding West Coast Pac schools, and have them playing a lot of 9 a.m. Pacfic Time games (the whole point of adding Central time zone schools to the Pac is to have a presence in the Noon Easter TV window).
The ACC isn't going to 16 without Notre Dame accepting full membership. Can't do that and take Texas and OU.
The Big Ten might be interested, but I can't see the west schools opting to be run over by Texas and OU in perpetuity--they can't compete with the East schools, but at least they have a chance to win their division and pull an upset in the championship game. Add OU (and Texas), and that's out the window.

Where is the good point?
What the hell difference does it make what conference they are in? So they go to the Pac 12, Oklahoma goes to the playoff, loses the game.
What changed?

Exactly. If sec says No
Then they go to Pac12 or B10
Sec has to adjust to also be a super conference anf they are left with scraps like Va Tech or NC State
The sec won't remain as is if other conference go super that's 100% a given so it makes no logical sense to say No to UT and OU

The point is the whole metric of value has changed. It’s gone from TV demographic reach to brand. Brand will take over the earlier consideration. We’ll kick Vandy and the Mississippi schools out of the conference to make money. Add FSU and North Carolina too.

I said same thing. It’s going to happen anyway.
Posted on 7/21/21 at 7:43 pm to RollingwiththeTide
Why do we have to take both?
Take OU and tell Texas to frick off.

Finebaum is a clown. SEC should be embarrassed that big eared dweeb is their mouthpiece.

Finebaum
... maybe he needs to give the Longhorn Network a try.
TV's already wrecked NASCAR don't think they can't do it to college football.

I’ve slept on it and I’m all for it.
Adjust the divisions and do away with the permanent cross division rivals, and let’s go! I’m excited for the matchups it’ll bring!
