No one gives a frick. If anything schools like Clemson are in a better position than schools like BAMA to succeed, especially in the post-Saban Era. That goes for all SEC schools. The playoffs are by design rewarding playing little competition.

There is doubt that Coach Bryant had ANYTHING to do with the selection of the coach that followed him.
Ray was OK and may have had success at Bama but his leaving set us up for trouble.
Bill Curry....C'Mon Man

Bobby Bowden, who was the best coach in college football and like Swinney grew up in Alabama and played (his freshman year) at Alabama, wanted to come to UA after Perkins. Joab Thomas and the so called search committee screwed that one up.
All that history, though, eventually led to Nick Saban, and other hires might not have, so I'm good. If you have to go 24 years between the best coaches ever in college football, with a national title somewhere in the middle, that's ok. It's like fate that Alabama has had the 2 best college football coaches ever. Clearly, The Big JC is an Alabama fan.

Growing up in Birmingham, Bowden listened to Alabama football games on the radio and was a devoted fan. His dream growing up was to play and coach the Crimson Tide. He actually accomplished the first. After graduating from high school in January 1949, Bowden enrolled at Alabama and practiced with the freshman football team that spring. But, after one semester in Tuscaloosa, Bowden married his high-school sweetheart, Julia Ann Estock, and returned to Birmingham.
He attended Howard College, played on the football team and then was head coach there from 1959 to 1962.
By the mid-1980s, Bowden was entrenched at Florida State. Bowl games and double-digit win seasons were the expectation in Tallahassee. The 1986 season had been a bit of a disappointment with FSU managing a 7-3-1 record but the Seminoles were invited to play in the All-American Bowl against Indiana... in Birmingham.
After downing the Hoosier 27-13 on New Year's Day, Bowden was asked how long he would consider if offered the Alabama job. "Like that," he said, snapping his fingers.
And Bowden's name was definitely linked to the job, along with Howard Schnellenberger, Gene Stallings, Danny Ford and Jackie Sherrill. University of Alabama President Joab Thomas formed a search committee which he chaired and the search began in earnest. Bowden was contacted bysearch committee which he chaired and the search began in earnest. Bowden was contacted by several people associated with the program asking if he would take the job. He said he would talk to Thomas if a job was in the offing but he had no interest in interviewing for the position.
Gaylon McCollough, a former player under Bryant, acted as a liaison between the candidates for the Alabama job and the committee. McCollough, following Perkins suggestion, recommended Georgia Tech's Bill Curry for the job and also reached out to Bowden. McCollough later claimed the invitation was for an interview only. Bowden clearly thought otherwise.
When Bowden entered the third-floor conference room of Birmingham's Medical Towers building (which housed the UA System Chancellor's office) he was surprised to see more than a dozen people there. It was an interview. And, for more than an hour, the group questioned Bowden about his process and goals. Then, when the questions ended, Thomas told Bowden, "Thank you for coming, Bobby." There was no job offer.
"I left," Bowden later wrote. "And the the only thing I could think was, They didn't offer me the dadgum job!"
Bowden said Thomas called him a few hours after he returned to Tallahassee that night to tell him that Alabama had decided to hire Bill Curry." That came as a surprise to quite a few folks in Tuscaloosa where the perception on the Alabama side was that Bowden's hiring was a done deal.
"I went to bed just thrilled," said UA sports information director Wayne Atcheson. "The next morning the first news I heard was that Bobby Bowden had withdrawn his name and Bill Curry would be our coach."
McCollough later suggested that concerns that Bowden would not be able to coach black athletes was a factor for the decision. Bowden pointed out that he had already coached black players at West Virginia. McCollough also criticized Bowden for lacking a "plan" to help players become good students and productive citizens.
Bowden said he was heartbroken but the decision had been made. For a time, anyway.

Dabo would be the dumbest man on the planet if he left clempson for Bama. He is already a god to the sheep humpers.

Hell. if it was up to Bama they would have hired Rich Rod instead of Saban
Coaching searches are pure luck from multiple angles

You do realize that no other program has had more than three win a NC in that time, don't you?
Miami and LSU have had four. Oklahoma, USC and Ohio State have all had three. All of those schools coaches had completely different personalities. You have to have an SOB type personality to win at Bama to put up with media and fans. Dabo has no reason to go put up with that when he makes a ton of money and wins national championship where he is located. Plenty of good coaches will be lining up to go to Bama, but it won’t be Dabo.

In the last 70 years Alabama has won 13 national titles, LSU 4 and Saban is responsible for at least 2 of them.
Between the LSU national title in 1958 till Nick Saban arrived, none of the 8 coaches at LSU won a title.

Recruiting a senior class doesn't make someone "responsible" for a national title.
If that's the case, then Mike Shula is responsible for Alabama's 2009 title.

Saban built LSU's entire program. From 1958 till he arrived LSU was a SEC also ran, around 5th in the conference in win pct. None of the 8 coaches between 1958 till Saban won a title.

Saying Saban is solely responsible for LSU's 2007 title is a moronic statement.
Saban undoubtedly brought LSU to the elite table but if he'd been the sole person responsible for the success of the program, then LSU would've reverted right back to where they were pre Saban when he left.
Miles was arguably more successful than Saban while at LSU and LSU has maintained its position as an elite program that can compete for national titles even 16 years after Saban left.

People of ignorance continue to think this is true. There was group who was afraid to wait for Saban, thinking it may not pan out and that they would miss their opportunity on other coaches. However, Saban was Mal's target. He was always Mal's target, and Mal was in charge of the hiring. Alabama hired Saban, and for some odd reason, the fact a few people wanted to rush and hire someone else for a moment makes LSU get all hot and bothered to this day. Let it go.

As an LSU fan I would love having to play a Dabo coached
team than a Saban team. Dabo`s good but aint no Nick.

Mal's top two targets were Spurrier and Saban.
Spurrier was the first contacted because Moore knew him and Spurrier wasn't interested.
Saban refused to talk to Alabama until the NFL season ended so Moore moved on to Rich Rod and offered him the job.
In a sense, both are true, Saban was one of the first options but Alabama would've hired Spurrier or Rich Rod had either of them wanted the job.

How many 5 stars will transfer when Saban retires? Transfer portal going to play havoc with rosters during coaching changes. Ask TN. Especially with teams with a lot of out of state players like Bama.

The o p is probably talking about the fact that Swinney’s new contract has an Alabama clause and you can bet that most rival fans do give a frick. The reaction in this thread is an obvious indication
It was signed in 2019, so don't think it's new unless I missed something.
But I don't see the desire. He's an over-rated coach IMO. Weak conference gets him into the playoffs, loses most of the time. I mean I'd be happy with those results in general if he came to Alabama, but he's not even going to win the SEC most years.
More importantly, it's a dumb topic because by the time Saban actually retires, it'll probably be an entirely different coach that people will look at.
