That’s why he will take the job if offered - when the GOAT leaves.

Think back to when Bryant retired. There is a reason Alabama had to settle for Ray Perkins.

You’re gonna be in the same exact spot when Saban retires.

Dabo makes $8.3 million. He has won as many championships as Bama has in the last five years while at Clemson. Bama fans cannot enjoy the present for their fear, worry and anxiety of another run of Dubose, Franchione, Price, Shula and Kines in the future.

It is hard for coaches to win NCs at Bama. Only three have done so in the last 70 years. You have to be an SOB and Dabo is not that type of coach. He knows he can win at Clemson. He’s not going back to Bama and risk not being able to win there or risk returning Bama to mediocrity.

You do realize that no other program has had more than three win a NC in that time, don't you?

Edit...Or maybe Miami had four? Howard S., Jimmy Johnson, Erickson, and Coker?

No one is Bama. But Dabo is sort of like Saban for Clemson. He could do great things at Bama when Saban retires. However, he’d be taking over something he didn’t build and he’d never outperform Saban. Dabo built Clemson and I believe he takes great pride in that.

This is some sad wishful thinking. Even a dickhead like Les Miles could win a title with the players Saban left behind. You really think 'Bama won't get a coach capable of doing the same thing with whoever inherits his stacked roster?

I disagree. I bet many good coaches would jump at the chance to coach Saban recruiting classes. We watched Miles win one with his recruits, somebody else probably will at Bama too. Now it is reasonable to expect an eventual drop off, but it will take a while. I disagree with op, I don't think it will be Dabo, however.

13 nattys in that time.

Chizik, Coker and O have won nattys, must not be too hard.

There are plenty of times Alabama had to settle for a coach. But 1983 was not one of those times.

The o p is probably talking about the fact that Swinney’s new contract has an Alabama clause and you can bet that most rival fans do give a frick. The reaction in this thread is an obvious indication

Evidently you don’t realize Perkins was Bryant’s choice as his successor.
