Don't limit yourself to just Huntsville, then. The two highest points in Jefferson county are visible from my back porch, and both within probably 1000 yards away. Northeast Alabama is full of areas that have great mountain views.

ETA - I live just NE of Birmingham, but there are tons of places in the quadrant bounded (roughly) by I20 to the south and I65 to the west where you can find beautiful mountainous areas and be closer to good jobs than you are now.
