I would rather there be a black market for boosters paying players and the NCAA turning a blind eye to EVERY school.

Paying college athletes is not a viable option. Any agreement to pay football players would immediately face serious Title IX issues. In other words, you would have to pay female athletes so as to treat them "equally" under Title IX. Schools don't have that amount of money in the athletic budget to pay thousands of non revenue athletes.

Plus, if anything, COVID (with the cancellation of March Madness and potentially the 2020 football season), has demonstrated how fragile many athletic budgets are. Miss the 2020 football season, and the system crashes for many, many schools.
