Who doesnt?
In what universe is that a knock?
My working theory here is that the emotional rise and fall of the O-type leader leads to the peaks and collapses we've seen from other similar coaches. People like him can jump start a program on energy and motivation and cultural matching, but after the surge, can it be sustained at a high level?
And my reference was to the idea that sustaining a program with that type of leader might require that you get different "style" coaches who are less reliant on those attributes.

I looked it up and all of Auburn's qbs in the last few years were "dual-threat" in highschool.
That's correct. Jeremy Johnson & Sean White were pro-style QBs. Stidham and Nix were both "dual-threat". BUT, their style of dual-threat is a far cry from Cam or Nick Marshall.

I mean, was Sean not in that same category of very mobile/accurate passer? I feel like we have a hard time categorizing white dual threat guys because so often "dual threat" in HS becomes pretty much pro style in college (by physical necessity).
A lot of us still aren't convinced Nix will remain a DT by any stretch of the term, although I'm certainly hoping he's able to do so.
ETA - just looked and maybe you're right (on White being only pro-style).

I think Nix will be a beast if the Auburn coaching staff doesnt fail him.

I didnt think you were using it as one, I was speaking more to others who do.
Orgeron is constantly referred to as a "CEO type" head coach.
What coach isnt a "CEO type" anymore?

Well that sucks for Nix then

No, he's never going to be a Nick Marshall, but he's proven he can at least be a threat to run when he has to. I wish they'd design some more runs for him.
And I agree about the DT transition from college to HS. I think the QB runs a lot more in HS systems than they would be expected to do in college.

Maybe Gus, although he's certainly got plenty of CEO characteristics.
And I think the tension between him being an "offensive mind" and a CEO HC is a big part of why Auburn can't get over the hump.

Luckily he seems to have totally given control of the defense to Steele. I don't ever see him doing the same with the offense, nor should he necessarily. He was hired for his offense, but I think he is developing more into a program builder.

I'd add Mike Leach, maybe Lincoln Riley.

Depending on where they go to school, someone like Bo Nix may be one of the top 3 athletes on the field in HS.
Rarely are they at the next level unless you're someone like Newton or Tebow.
He has the skills to be an effective runner a la Burrow though and thats sometimes more dangerous because it forces you to focus on making smart decisions and playing from the pocket more than a Newton or Tebow would because they can just "out athlete" everyone.
Its better for long term development in my opinion.

Coach O can easily drink Chizik under the table. In a fight you just know O would bite Gene's nose off and spit it in his face. Just on those two data points alone I have to give the nod to O being a better fit at LSU than Chizik was at Auburn.

And while he doesn't need to right now, I won't be surprised if Riley increasingly takes on CEO characteristics in the future
Leach is one of the few guys that will never be a CEO coach, but he'll never be at a program where he needs to, honestly.

Nope, tied with 2004 Ohio State with 14.

Chizik had 5 career wins prior to coming to Auburn.
Orgeron had two winning seasons as an interim coach before LSU hired him.
