I'm really impressed at how many fired Auburn football coaches live in the Auburn area.

3 out of the 4 coaches let go at Auburn still want to live in this community: Pat Dye, Gene Chizik, and Tommy Tuberville.

The only coach in the last 40 years who is currently not living there is Terry Bowden. He's currently at Auburn with a river (Clemson).

What other SEC schools have that many fired coaches still in the area?

Auburn is a great area to live. It's easy to see why they wouldn't leave.

Fulmer remained in Knoxville until he became the new AD

I know it may be semantics, but Chizik was the only coach you listed that was actually fired.

That is quite a bit. UGA has a lot too, with Dooley, Goff, and Donnan. Mark Richt is actually the only living former UGA head coach that doesn't live in Athens.

Nolan stayed in Fayetteville for life. Nutt came back, but to Little Rock. Of course Broyles stayed, but he fired himself as HC because he was also AD.

You left out Doug Barfield who is still there. Great guy who was in a bad situation when he coached.

Random but I stayed at Pat Dye’s hunting camp for the 2010 LSU auburn game. He was fricking awesome and loved to dish out nuggets. He said urban Meyer has never called a play, and tommy tubberville’s wife is a mega whore

He also said Cam Newton was the best athlete he’s ever seen at auburn, and we just laughed our asses off at the idea...yeah, auburn 440 rushing yards later had us quieter than pregame. Super nice guy and major BAW

Auburn is one of the best area's to live in the state. I think it was also one of the Top 10 Nationally to retire. It is very close to Atlanta, has a great school system and low property taxes.

Plenty of perqs and friendships go along with a HC job.

When you know where all the bodies are hidden at Auburn, perhaps one retains many of those perqs and settles in for the long haul .

The Auburn area is a great community. When you factor in that we overpay our coaches consistently and give big settlements to even those who "resign", it makes sense.

Why wouldn't they? Not a bad place to live and I believe almost all of em have business interest there especially Chizik.

I wonder if Lake Martin has anything to do with this?

Bowden lived there himself from the time he resigned in '98 until he got his first gig back in coaching at UNA 11 years later.

I seem to recall reading that he still owns a house in the area.

I'm sure some of that has to do with their kids. Sometimes they stay put if the kids are happy where they are since coaches move around so much and aren't home much during the season as is. Chizik and Tubberville both had kids in high school or younger when they were fired. And don't Chizik's daughters go to Auburn now?

I'm probably wrong, but didn't Tuberville move back to Auburn from Florida so that he could run for the Senate as a Pinebox Republican?
