Haven’t been keeping up with recruiting as much. Mostly looking at the CBs page.
I know with Tanner Bailey, a 2022 guy, that Saban caught Gus off guard by going against his character and offering without a camp performance which then forced Gus’s hand.
Maybe uncertain times and surprising measures also led to this. Maybe our defensive staff didn’t expect Ian Jackson to be a priority for Bama yet and focused on Barrett and Smael? Regardless, Trevin looks like a diamond in the rough and T Will will sell the shite out of being an underdog.

quote:we are leaning to taking only 1 LB maybe 2 if it’s the right 2, so the staff is trying to shoot the moon with targets like Mondon & Carter before moving on to other targets.
Then it makes little sense why they slow walked Ian Jackson.

Auburn defensive staff likes a 2021 unranked linebacker out of South Georgia. Trevin Wallace. An ankle injury kept him out of much of last season and that’s why recruiting analysts haven’t caught on to him yet. 247 doesn’t even have a picture of him. Still, Wallace says T Will talks to him at least once a week.
That's fine if AU wants to go for the homerun, still doesn't mean someone couldn't have done what Wallace quoted above, which was at least call each week to just keep the interest.
Evidently we know how to keep in touch with kids on their board...except Ian Jackson.

Which is why that rumor is probably not true.

Yep. More than likely, the truth is somewhere in the weeds of it. We probably weren't showing Jackson as much love as he would like, and more than likely we told him where he realistically stood on our board, and that upset him.
Bama did a good job showing him the love he wanted.

Yeah I think it’s pretty simple. Recruits say all the time they like how transparent TWill is. I think they all feel like they know where they stand.
Complicated year where we’re taking only one guy AND the third or fourth guy on your board is a top 15 LB and an Auburn fan.
Yes, Jackson understood he was down the board. Bet that sucked having to wait around on other kids to decide while the best program in the country over the last decade is busting their arse to get the commitment

T Will has missed on Simpson and still n the green. Steele has maximum benefit of the doubt plus he turned Deshaun Davis into a stud after coach hothead wouldn’t play him.
Tyrone Truesdell was barely a low 3*.
Quinnen Williams was only a 2* when he committed to Auburn.
Linebacker has not been a problem. Defense hasn’t been a problem.
Even if the rumor is true, I don’t care. I trust their judgment.

To be barely a low 3 * their scores has to be around 82 or lower. Kameron Brown would qualify as a barely a low 3*. Truesdell not, as both 247 and rivals had him as a high three star.

Quinnen Williams was only a 2* when he committed to Auburn.

Maybe I misremember. We for sure deserve a finder’s fee for Q.

Dumb. If taking two is a possibility and you have a sure fire really good one and 2 other "shoot the moon" types obviously secure the 1 and see what happens with the other two.

Two is a big stretch with our current depth chart and no attrition because of the coronavirus. We need someone to leave in order to take another guy. Just my opinion. Much bigger needs across the roster

Meh, if we need one take one if the other happens to be a top 10 player in the country you find room for that kind of player. It's not that hard.

Like Jones said we’re leaning on taking only one because of the current depth chart. No doubt it would’ve been nice to get him on board but they have had guys ahead of him and acted accordingly.

We say this every year at LB. We always have more guys that want in than we need. And it’s the one position that Steele doesn’t even care if they’re anything more than an elite athlete. The pre-requisite isn’t even experience
You don’t overtake every year for a position that occupies two of eleven spots on the field.
