Why are so many UGA and Bama fans against the California bill?

It's kind of a hypocritical stance considering everything their boosters do to make sure they land recruits.
Even people in Big Ten land know what Bama and Dawg boosters are up to

Why? There are probably a number of reasons but probably the foremost one is the combination of amateurism with the proliferation of a polished, smart Saban system in which players get paid with the approval of but without the direct involvement of the head brass. ..... And Georgia started recruiting like Alabama as soon as they hired a Saban assistant who had access to gobs of money.

Why would you come here and post stupid shite from a Michigan blog?
Piss off.
Piss off.

If you have evidence, then show it. Otherwise, GTFOH

Just wait until the California schools are able to magically qualify kids like Alabama and Georgia can.
The SEC is doomed.
The SEC is doomed.

You think that it's Kirby's actual charm and persuasiveness that is luring in the recruits.

Your coach actually put in bids on Cam Newton..you think he stopped doing that when he got to Gainesville?

So you got nothing.
Kirby came in with a lot of hype at a school that was already a top10 recruiting school. Kids want to play for a winner.

Do you think weird Dan does it with only charm and persuasiveness?

My favorite team is pristine but yours is dirty. You gotta love it man.

Guess I am a Bama/UGA fan because this is NOT the way to fix this problem.
If you want students to have a path from crib to the NFL then develop your own minor league combine and keep college out of it. Yes the NCAA put themselves in this position by playing coy and ignoring all the garbage going on behind the scenes.
Most students asking for payment could care less about being actual students so how about we just drop this farce altogether and separate the two pool of players.
Hell have the NFL start a kindergarten combine where they OWN the players from the time they can walk.
The Nike Rugrats will dominate the pathetic Yellowwood Toddlers this season.

seems to me there are more reasonable Alabama fans regarding this topic than any other team on this board. I can think of at least 5 that seem to be ok with it. We may not "support" it but can understand it's the fair thing to do and it's always been just a matter of time. Will it be a pain in the arse and take years to deal with this? Absolutely.

Nah, this is a pretty good system at the moment. Honestly, I'd prefer if Florida could just go ahead and pay because we'd be top 5 every year.
However, to get to the NFL it's a very difficult thing to achieve. It might be about .0005% of the current players actually get to the NFL and "make it", and really only the top Universities do it with any sort of consistency. So creating a league like that will only ensure that we have broke homeless kids who put their bodies on the line for absolutely nothing.
The proponents who think these kids are unpaid fail to realize that they are heavily compensated. Medical, dental, place to live, food to eat, scholarship worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (from Florida), access to coaches paid millions, facilities, connections, alumnus programs etc. etc..
That's millions of dollars right there that they're being paid, as if they're interns. The benefit of tying it to college is that when you graduate, you have used your body to obtain a skill that will pay you for your entire life. It may not sound as glamorous as the NFL and making millions of dollars, but a degree from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, any school in the SEC (especially a place like Vanderbilt) will pay you forever.
So let's stop trying to ruin a decent system because you think it'll achieve some sort of groundbreaking advance in their lives.
If schools start paying kids, the schools will just take everything out until the payment equals zero lol. Their monetary compensation would likely equal much less to what their degree and the rest of their benefits they're making are worth, hilariously.

I suppose that's your admission that Florida has NO CHARM and NO sense of PERSUASIVENESS.
You're mad at UGA & Alabama because Florida made stupid mistakes??? Florida made at least two wrong hires and in Mullen, you may have a third. That's led to FLORIDA'S struggles at the moment--it's not UGA's or UA's problem.
The thing Florida has to be worried about is being permanently cast off from nearly all the 4 & 5-star athletes that are now going to UGA, UA, Clemson, OU, Ohio State, etc., that Florida's not getting. These athletes want to go to a place where they have the best chance to win championships and be the best prepared to go on to the NFL.
Florida has fallen behind, as has Tennessee and several others. The Gators are fighting for their lives right now--including Auburn, who's also been largely shut out of these 4 & 5-stars.

This is not "pay for play"! Players will NOT be getting paid by the schools.
This bill opens the door for athletes to get paid by outside vendors for their likeness, endorsements, autograph sessions, etc.
However, here's Pandora's Box.....some states may not have the same restrictions that California may have and may offer MORE opportunities to make MORE money than they would if they went to a school in California.
This is where the recruiting wars take a nasty turn. One school in X-state can offer 3 times more opportunities than Z-state because it has less restrictions. This is where a FEDERAL law governing all of this will become necessary in order to level the playing field and schools to be at a less disadvantage recruiting-wise.
Bottom line to me: this is the absolute end to college sports. The unique spirit and culture of college sports is now GONE WITH THE WIND. It's sad and disappointing.
One thing we could definitely see: a revival of the SMU-style of recruiting that will flourish unabashed in the contrails of this bill. You think cheating is bad now? Just wait.

Says the fan of the school that hired and employed Urban freaking Meyer. And "hired" Aaron Hernandez and kept him after he shot a local man. Florida under Meyer was the trashiest college football program of all time. Even trashier than the Florida program where the head coach escorted the football team to a Fraternity to whip some butt. Crazy. Even for Florida.

Ah, the good ole "Anyone who does better than my team must be cheating" delusion.
I'm sure kids get all kinds of hook ups. $100 handshakes or whatever happen on the regular. Those are the equivalent to a civil infraction, not really a crime/cheating - but it has to be prosecuted for the same reason why the bill is terrible for the sport.
But when you are talking about paying a player large sums of money to come to your school, I'm gonna need to see some proof.
