I actually think its happened before. ND I think did it I think vs USC? Came out in Blue and at half came out in Green.

ETA: Yup. LINK

quote:

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame Coach Gerry Faust was asked during the week whether his team would wear green jerseys against USC instead of the traditional blue garb. Faust said that the Irish would not be adorned in green on the opening kickoff of Saturday’s game. He told the truth, but not all of it. It turned out that Notre Dame was clad in green, but not until the start of the second half.

That's the first rational, "I don't want the blackout" argument I've ever seen. It makes sense.

Anyone that was there for the Auburn game in 2007 will tell you how electric Sanford was that night. It was incredible. Plus they look great and the recruits love them. I don't see a downside. Oregon loses in their alternate unis all the time. Doesn't stop them from putting yet another fugly uniform on two weeks later. They know they lost because they're Oregon...not the unis.

Where is the source for the “recruits love them” argument? Seriously. I’ve never seen anything to prove that recruits “love them”.

Other than the 100s of pictures of recruits wearing them?

Lots of schools have occasional alternates. We're the only ones who make a big, gay deal over it.

While I rather we wear our red jerseys vs ND I agree with ya, Fin. Ohio State rocks these hideous alternates damn near annually and in big games too. Traditional ones. Michigan they've worn black several times, PSU they wore gray.

OU wears their alternates annually and have lost big games in them. We're just big babies about it here in Athens. And I exemplify that cause I don't want to deal with all of the shite that comes with wearing black.

What "shite"?

Are you seriously worried about what message board trolls think about UGA?

That in combination with the constant media buzz. Not so much what Early and Jeb on TD or Twitter think individually but just the entire thing as a whole. It's just not something that should merit any discussion or thought on a week where top ten ND comes to Athens.

However, here we are all arguing about it anyway.

I’m ok with black jersies; I just don’t want to see the helmets changed up. That’s when it gets a little too out there for my traditional tastes. I also would like to see some red pants and white jersies on the road. I always thought that looked good back in the day.

People don't like the black jerseys because no one was willing to admit that Alabama was just better than us in 2008. The jersey color had zero effect on that game. The jerseys aren't why we got mauled on both lines of scrimmage.

Because it always becomes "ZOMG, A BLACKOUT!!!!!!!" rather than "the team is wearing alternates today".

That's what a black out is supposed to do get the fans even more hyped

Bingo.

The only way to break the mental illness of half the fan base about the black jerseys is to wear them more often.

Last SEC game BTH every year is perfect.

Am I alone in thinking the spike squad is kinda lame?

The Spike Squad is lame as frick. I'd pay good money to see someone get into the stadium before them and take their seats.

Let’s wear the Power Rangers unis to complement the new LEDS in the stadium

they're very lame. I 100% appreciate their spirit and devotion to the team but they sure go about it in a cringey way. Ultimately I don't care what the spike squad requests. It's also kinda crazy to me we don't ask people to wear red to every home game, which IMO is how it should be eery home game. To my knoweldge the only time we've called for a "red out" ( ) was '13 LSU and it looked awesome.

It reminds me way too much of Super NFL fans and how they dress up for games. Their Twitter account has gotten super cringe as well.
