Auburn did not get lucky. Oregon might have had the more talented first string players, but Auburn had more depth. And that's what separates top tier SEC teams from most of the other P5 schools. Auburn has consistent Top 10 recruiting classes and are still talented in the second and even third string. Oregon's talent isn't as deep as Auburn's and it showed as the game wore on. The Ducks just got gassed and didn't have the horses behind their first string players to keep up.

Bro Oregon dropped the ball unforced when they were at the goal line, AU picked it up and ran it almost all the way back. AU had to settle for a FG, but that was probably a 10 point swing that just fell in AU’s lap.

He threw three bad passes and two were intercepted. I can not think a good Defense would have done much more.

He threw into coverage way more than three times and the only reason he didn't have more pics is because he is not that accurate.

The winning TD pass was a bad throw that luckily fell into his receiver's hands. The only reason why it was caught is because it was so severely under thrown.

Perhaps the young qb got away some mistakes and bad throws that maybe a better defense would make him pay for.

I think that is fair. The truth is, no matter which team won, both teams could look to moments where they did not capitalize on opportunities. But that can be said in any close game.

I think that one was intentionally under thrown and therefore a good pass. But he will get more accurate and start hitting his receivers in stride as he gets more reps with them. The main things was he played bad at first, and shook it off, and made the game winning play. You can't coach that. Somebody is either good under pressure or not.

AU played a damn good game with a freshman QB. Their defense played lights out in the second half. AU, you have my respect. Bring it on.

For a true freshman, on a very big stage, I was impressed.

His lack of experience will bite us this year probably. But I think he will only get better.

I think the A&M game will be a really big test for him, it will be a big stage and a very hostile environment.

Yardage can be bullshite

Didn’t Oregon have some monster kickoff returns

Auburn wasn’t lucky. They won. Their defense played well to bring them back

Malzahn is an idiot though. Not going for two twice could have really cost them

Losing 21-20 would have been a disgrace

Exactly, as the game progressed he learned that some college linebackers are as fast as he is. He learned sometimes just throwing it away is the best play. When he gets his timing down with his receivers his completion percentage will go up.

Special teams is what is most concerning to me. That was an absolute shite show.

I was a little surprised by Carlson. I've only seen him twice, but both times he seemed to have struggled a bit.

LOL

I am agreeing with you a lot today.

He left the pocket too soon at times. And I think he is still used to being able to out-athlete defenses. And he tried to do too much often.

But he will settle in, develop a rhythm with his receiver and learn to take what the defense gives him.

All of the intangibles, though, looked really good against Oregon. A few games to work on the rest before the next big test.

Carlson is of zero concern for me. Our punt coverage and KO coverage is what looked like total horse crap.

Auburn rightfully won.

They were fortuitous that Oregon blew two timeouts in a row due to their coaches not knowing how the rules work, but still.

Oregon was fortuitous on a couple occasions, too. This shite doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

26>21 whether lucky or not. Auburn’s last drive however should end any futile debate over luck.

Of course not. One could consider the double TO strategy a wash to the never-gonna-go-for-2 strategy.

That's just poor execution by that Oregon player and a good play by AU to scoop it up and take off with it instead of just falling on it. Similarly, Bo Nix threw a couple of picks. Mistakes and taking advantage of them are part of the game. Auburn did what it took to come back and win the game. Opening games often have some sloppiness. It was still a hard fought game between two very good teams and fun game to watch. Btw, I was pulling for Auburn.

What was fortuitous was Auburn stopping them on fourth and half a yard. Hell, it was an outstanding play by our D. That play put the ball back in the O's hand.
