Despite not having a set position throughout spring camp it appears HJ will be a RB. What Caddy had to say about it to BM
Joiner is going to line up all over the field, regardless of where his "primary" position is IMO. His skill set is too valuable not to. He will be a more run heavy version of Charles Clay. We would be foolish not to utilize him like that.

I want to believe Joey has what it takes to run Gus’ optimal offense. He has the size and supposedly has the elusiveness to gain yards when plays break down. It looks like he has a capable arm. Jury is still out on decision making abilities.
My worry is if he can not throw the ball well, his running ability will not help us. The opposing defense will just stack the box and eat us up. He has not looked great throwing it the limited times we have saw him but a lot of work will be put into him by September

I think Joey is solid just enough as a passer to force defenses to pick their poison, but we will see.

Yeah, he needs to have a strong deep or intermediate game (provided we implement intermediate routes this year) for his mobility to be utilized. I seem to remember his deep passes left a lot to be desired so hopefully he has improved there. I suspect he has, it’s just how much has he improved and will it be enough.

Auburn’s Noah Igbinoghene lands on Hornung Award watch list?
Auburn junior Noah Igbinoghene landed on the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Thursday.
Igbinoghene, Auburn’s top cornerback and kick returner, is one of 44 players from across the country named to the watch list for the award, which is given each year to the nation’s most versatile player. Igbinoghene joins four other SEC players on the watch list, including Kentucky’s Lynn Bowden Jr., LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Florida’s Kadarius Toney and South Carolina’s AJ Turner.
Last year’s winner, Purdue receiver/return specialist Rondale Moore, is also on the watch list.
Igbinoghene is coming off a sophomore campaign that saw him switch from wide receiver to cornerback in the offseason. In his first year on defense, Igbinoghene led the Tigers with 11 pass breakups and had one interception while totaling 50 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, and a forced fumble. He also averaged 28.27 yards per kick return.
Players can be added to the watch list during the season based on performance. Three finalists for the award will be announced Nov. 14, and a winner will be announced Dec. 1.

He looked vastly improved int he spring game (i know it's just a spring game) than he did in high school. If he keeps that improvement going, I think his passing will be fine.
Like with Cam, it is a two edged sword. If early on, his running can be effective enough it gets people to bite, the passing will be much easier as there will be some pretty open WR's. That will in turn open the running back up when teams adjust. One or the other needs to be strong early in the season. He doesn't have to be great at both at the start.

Negative. Brown & Coe are both on the Nagurski I believe. Siposs to the Guy. Kim is on the Remington and Tega is on one of them.

I’ve seen several of the lists posted on the Rant and glossed over them. I guess I missed all those guys

They are fairly meaningless. Almost any upperclassman that is a returning starter in a major conference gets put on the "watch list" it seems

I’m just a huge fan to be honest. I don’t doubt he will struggle at times throwing the ball, but he has room to grow. NM, Cam, Dak Prescott, and others all improved as the year and the seasons went along, and I think Gatewood will too if we stick with him. Prescott sucked throwing the ball his first year. An opponent said Nick Marshall wasn’t a real QB. If we demoted him week 5, then who knows what happens.
Obviously we don’t have to stick with Joey because we also have Bo. I think we have two talented QBs and only one football, so something will give.
You need to ask JvilleTiger though. He’s watched him play and lives in Jacksonville I assume.

Prescott is probably a pretty good gauge of what I think we should expect from Joey this year. He may be a little more polished at this point, but that is probably a realistic expectation. We will be a much better team, so I think Joey's stats should be much better than Dak's were his first year starting.

NM was a tentative passer at best early on, but he was just competent enough that defenses risked getting burned when they stacked the box against us (MSU, I'm looking in your direction). And once he got comfortable with the read option the offense really took off, as teams had to respect his running ability as well as defend against him pulling up at the last second and flicking it to a wide-open target downfield.
Of course our '13 OL was an outstanding unit. Jury's still way out on our current bunch.

Hell, that was our 2010 offense too. Cam had more rushing attempts than passing attempts in 3 of our first 4 games.

Would love to see a couple of backs like Ronnie and Caddy in the backfield together again. Handoffs, wheel routes, options... no idea why Malzahn doesn't try to run a two back offense sometimes. It can really stress a defense.

quote:I’m curious what his answer is, because I’m sure at some point in time he has been asked this. Maybe having multiple big backs in greatly reduces the number of plays designed for those 11 on the field? That would cause subbing on offense. He’s all about speed and versatility (in theory)

Maybe for most PI in a single season award

I must’ve missed that question mark. I copied and pasted the whole article and for whatever reason at least 10 question marks were arbitrarily scattered throughout the article.
