What good will prison do? It will make a criminal out of him. He needs to pay restitution and do a lot of community service and speak at schools about the dangers of DUI.

What sends a stronger message to kids: knowing that a kid is in prison because he drove high and killed 2 people, or seeing that kid doing community service for a few weekends, and knowing in the back of your mind that there won’t be any real consequences for anything you do while you’re a “kid?”

This kid wasn’t scared of prison. It wasn’t on his radar, nor the radar of any other kid. Putting this kid in prison solves nothing. His life, as he knew it, is over. The only way to help the family of the victims is to have him work his arse off for years to pay some restitution and speak against DUI. If he’s sent to prison he’ll be on taxpayer dime and sitting around learning how to be a criminal, so he can return to prison one day and we can support him again. Prison should be a place to keep repeat, violent offenders.
