He’s mastered the art of getting a free bye week during championship weekend to nurse his banged up guys back to health after the iron bowl. It’s smart.

Don't forget the Patrick Peterson interception in 2009 that likely keeps Alabama out of the SEC championship. But there's too many "ifs" there so I give them 2009 as legit. 2011, 2012, and 2017 they were plain lucky to be there. 2011 and 2017 speak for themselves. And people forget that in 2012 Ohio State was undefeated but on probation. That game coulda, woulda, shoulda been Notre Dame vs Ohio State.

Maybe you should go back and rewatch that game.

Rose Bowls were invitationals for the nation's top two teams

Yeah, except the top teams in the nation never accepted the invites and bama became a reliable fall back plan.

Fun fact, in 1925 the top 7 teams turned down the rose bowl invite before bama finally accepted it and bama was considered somewhere between the 8th and 12th ranked team.

Rarely did one of the top teams play in those early rose bowls.

Anyway, to the OPs original question, I bama has 3 or 4 legit titles.

Of course they will....I see them winning another 20 titles and Saban not retiring for another 20 seasons.

Alabama finished 2nd in the SRS (one of the only actual numerical analysis systems going back that far) in 1925, slightly behind Michigan.

TipTop25, who goes back and does detailed analysis of each season, has Alabama ranked 3rd.

They were far from "8th-12th".

Just for shites and giggles - TipTop's champions from 1901-1969 for SEC teams

1917 - Georgia Tech
1927 - Texas A&M
1930 - Alabama
1934 - Alabama
1938 - Tennessee
1939 - Texas A&M
1942 - Georgia
1946 - Georgia
1950 - Tennessee
1952 - Georgia Tech
1957 - Auburn
1958 - LSU
1961 - Alabama
1962 - Ole Miss
1964 - Arkansas
1965 - Alabama

I know rivals just want to poke fun where they can but we absolutely deserved the '42 national title over OSU. And we claim it as well, but some people only think we have 1980.

We also "recognize" but not claim 3 others, including '46 like you mentioned.

So nearly breaking the opponent's QB into and not letting a team get past the 50 yard line are considered "luck" to you?...alrighteee then.

That shows how great he is. How many other coaches have truly mastered that? He knows how to beat LSU. No other SEC coach can do that year in and out.
