I don’t think getting off the ball and getting open was ever his problem. But admittedly I haven’t broken his film down or anything.

He would be the only guy on screen, and drop the ball. I would be like, "wtf, dude? You have one job in life."

There was a game last year where Sal was in the slot and Peanut Butter Jammed by an undersized DB.

It was embarrassing

Fun note, Auburn or Ohio State are involved in all 6 of the "Highest Impact Games" for CFP selection

I mean, makes sense since we play the projected Pac12 champ + the other 2 SEC contenders. Ohio State plays, PSU/Mich/MichSt

With a win, AU's CFP chances according to ESPN predictor is 25% vs only 9% with a L

Auburn confident it has improved field goal protection
quote:

Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes has worked on improving technique along the line on field goal protections throughout the offseason.

"The No. 1 thing is it gets back to technique," Grimes said. "It gets back to personnel too, and you've got to be really strong in the middle in today's environment because the defenses aren't allowed to jump anymore. So what you've got to do is you got to be strong in the middle so they don't blow you up inside. That's the biggest thing. So scheme-wise we're experimenting with some things."
quote:

"We spend tremendous amount of time on just giving the live looks that we did in games to make sure that we're sound in our protection and still that's a ongoing process from a standpoint of making sure that we're ready," special teams coordinator Larry Porter said.

"You sit back and you watch the way Washington's field goal block team pursues what they do, it gives you some concern. But I think that our guys have met the challenge and that we'll continue to improve. We'll be ready to go come Sept. 1."
quote:

Washington had one blocked kick last season, a blocked punt by defensive tackle Vita Vea, who is now in the NFL.

The last time the Huskies blocked a field goal was in Week 2 of the 2015 season, when Taniela Tupou blocked a Sacramento State field goal attempt, which came a week after Vea blocked a Boise State field goal.

Auburn defense respects speed, aggression of Washington running back Myles Gaskin
quote:

The 5-foot-10, 193-pound Gaskin possesses both the speed and elusiveness to find holes and hit the edge as well as the power to plow for yards between the tackles.

"When you see his game, you could tell he's more of an aggressive runner than people actually think," linebacker Deshaun Davis said. "On paper, you think he's more of a speed guy. He has speed, but Washington runs a lot of power. They run the counter game really well.

"He can hit downhill, but make no mistake about it: If you give him the edge, he's going to take it. They do a lot of shifting and stuff like that to get guys out of their gaps pre-snap, but we're working on that to make sure we stay in our gaps because what they do well is when you fit wrong, he's a good enough running back to find that hole, he's going to hit it and if he gets to that second level, good luck. We got to try to keep everything in front of us, and hopefully we can do that."
quote:

"(Gaskin) is really, really quick and he can make people miss in a short area," defensive coordinator Kevin Steele said. "He's got a really fast jump-skip. He can plant and skip and take off, makes a lot of people miss tackles."
quote:

Last season, Gaskin had 40 runs of 10-plus yards, which tied for 16th nationally, and also seven runs of 30-plus yards, which tied for 18th, showing he can move the sticks consistently and also break free for chunk plays.

"A lot of times when you face a lot of teams that's not in the SEC, you don't really have to worry about playing against - no disrespect to any running back in the country, but you don't really have to worry about playing those jump-cutting, real big running backs," defensive tackle Dontavius Russell said. "And he's not that big of a guy, but he's a really good running back, and that's another thing that we noticed on film and something (defensive line coach Rodney Garner) has been pointing out. So we'll definitely have to have our A-game ready to play that guy."

Him and Kam Martin aren't terribly different in build and agility and what not. He should have been decent prep for Gaskin's running style.

21. D'haquille Williams
20. Kyle Davis
19. Jarrett Stidham
18. Braden Smith

14. Joey Gatewood
13. Nate Craig-Myers
12. Jovon Robinson

Think it's more relevant here than recruiting board. Still can't believe Cowart busted but interesting to see where some ranked out. We have talent but we do very well with our lesser-rated talent performing above expectations and being good fit in our coordinator's schemes.

Crazy thing is Cowart landed at Maryland.... the school whose HC is suspended for a toxic culture that led to one player's death due to exhaustion in practice

Kind of sad that 7 of the 21 kids who made to AU left the program early vs only 4 being drafted by the NFL

I look back at your list and it makes me sad that we could not get the production out of some of those guys that we through we would Imagine if Cowart, Daniel, Roc Thomas, Javon Robinson and Kyle Davis would have stayed here and played up to their potential. Just wow

On another note, is Kyle Davis available for Joey Freshwater this year or is he sitting?

Just so I know for the future, your just in a permanent nega-barnin' state of mind right?

Not sure I've ever seen you say something positive about Auburn sports

Dude, that guy is a alter. Always has been. No person could possibly be that negative toward something that they do recreationally. Nobody.

Disingenuous at best. Most of that list are either on campus or are arriving next year.

14 of the 25 are either on the team or committed.

You have to watch Gene. He has a strong nega side at times

I was just thinking you could spin this a number of ways depending on your posi/nega mood

You could use Gene's stat or you could say that AU is about to sign an insane class considering 20% of the list is made up of 2019 commits
