They don't understand that. It will take a season without a Portis or a Gafford for people to realize it's not going to get much better than this. But that's fine because we're cool with just making the tournament.
everyone must have forgotten how shitty it was when we missed the tourney for so long. before mike when was our last tournament appearance?

2008 last time pre mike Anderson we went to tournament.
1996- last time we went to sweet 16.
we were essentially irrelevant in basketball for decades. stop acting like we should set our expectations to the 90s. it's 2018 and Arkansas basketball doesn't mean shite to anyone outside the state.

I think Stan Heath went to the tournament the same amount of times, but took less years
Edited: removed John Pelphrey because he only went his first year

stop acting like we should set our expectations to the 90s.
We have the facilities and recruiting to meet that expectation.

how often should we be in the sweet 16? cause it's only happened 11 times in program history.

The reason we were great in the 70s, 80s and 90s was because of coaching. We haven’t been relevant in years because we haven’t had a great coach in years. We have a good coach now; we will need a great one to go to the next level
I’d like for us to be fantastic again in basketball. But there again, that’s my expectation of my employees too.
Amazingly enough, high expectations and hard work seem to work in life
Many fans appear to be so scared of being totally irrelevant again as a program that they have lost any expectations of being great. They accept being scrappy or fighting hard.
It’s fun to have a basketball team that is feared. Sorry some of you don’t know that feeling

no I accept the reality that you build a standard of us going every year then we get a good year. a few good recruits and boom we're back. but it's a marathon not a sprint to get back to national prominence. especially in a sport that's changed in big ways since we were relevant.

quote:That's actually a really tough question because 10 of those 11 were during an 18 year span from 78-96. At one point we really were making the sweet 16 on average every other year. Obvioualy our coaches during that span were Eddie Sutton and Nolan Richardson. So basically unless we've had a hall of fame caliber coach it literaly almost never happens.

Exactly, what we're gonna need is a situation like we had two years ago with Bobby and Qualls. Had both of them stayed, that season could have been something really special. You need two or three NBA caliber juniors/seniors to be able to beat these lottery pick filled one and done teams, until we get someone like Bobby or Gafford to stay for at least 3 years, i don't see how we make it back to national spotlight.

for me when were really good we should be shooting for that and more. but reality is that it's called march madness because crazy shite happens.
this team when clicking seems like they could be that good.
when they're not clicking it's painful but theyve shown themselves to be talented enough to still pull it out.
we're just now to a season where debate has been over what seed we will be instead of will we make it.
if we want more sweet 16s the first step is give yourself more chances by making it consistently.

The first step is to win period. I get your point and it is full of common sense. Once we make it consistent, the recruiting will continue to pick up as well.

Arkansas is a basketball school. Has been for decades, even though we have been absent the last 20 years.
Our expectations should be making the NCAA tourney every year. There is no legitimate reason that we shouldn't make the field of 68 90% of the time. Our goal should be making the Sweet 16 every season. We won't always get there, but we should be fighting for it every season.
Mike has been here long enough that we shouldn't be hoping to make the tourney. We should expect it. Mike is a good coach and, by all accounts, a great man. That doesn't excuse him from having success here. He should be held accountable and criticized for underperforming. Making the NCAA tournament once every 3 years isn't being that successful so there's no reason for the fans to not expect better.
