just and fair.

Just and fair will always be an individual choice for each individual. There can't be a blanket statement over all 500,000 student athletes.

If an individual believes it to be unjust, then do something else.
A blanket statement of unjust would be to force kids to attend college and that's just silly.

These are what most of those players are like:

Then we are in agreement.

Away from college, the market value for a kid is less than $250/game (because the 18 year old still has to beat out a 22 year old for the job).

A college who spends tens of thousands per year in direct benefits is infinitely better.

It costs a minimum of $20 (probably closer to $50) just to tape a player up prior to football practice. About 15 years ago I knew a guy that was a trainer at one of the top SEC programs. He showed me how they tape ankles for practice, and we looked at what kinds of tape and how much was used. It was right at $20 back then, so certainly much higher now.

I would love to have the players become independent contractors or whatever. Then they can file to the IRS and get a statement from the team on benefits and so forth that they would have to claim as income, and cost of materials like getting taped. They'd rack up $1000 per month, just for tape and similar items, rather easily.

Then the players would stop whining.

This would be the best thing to ever happen to college sports.

It'll probably take Muffets a while to figure out that corner he painted himself into. If he comes back, watch the narrative change.

Because they suck. That is the market value for those players. I do not understand why you have such a hard time understanding that. That fact that the NFL essential has a monopoly is why College Football can get away with throwing the players crumbs instead of paying their worth to their programs. They use CF as their Farm System and nobody wants to challenge them with that.

Poor crisp. The only thing he knows about market value is being stuck with a timeshare while the hood falls apart.

You are confusing an NFL problem with a college football problem.

As you say, all challenges should be directed at the NFL. College football is doing what they are tasked to do.

No, these days most of my flying is done solo. But every pilot has had to load a plane some time in his career, your ignorance to the subject is exposed by comments that you think are insulting.

No, College football is doing what they can to maximize their profits. So is the NFL by not having to pay for a Farm System.

Really? How about this?....My x-military airline buddies tell me that the airlines are snaking all the decent pilots out of the military, and leaving the crud to Uncle Sam. They said that it's gotten so bad that the govt has started contacting pilots who've mustered out but aren't with an airline, and offering them the chance to come back in....I guess you unfortunately know a thing or two about "market value"....or lack of.

My twenty five years as a military pilot, and flight instructor speaks for itself. The Airlines do have a pilot shortage right now and many of my fellow Officers have gone that route. But at this point in my life I have chosen to work the engineering and development side of the military industrial complex. But keep throwing , you might hit something one day.

Not here. I had a chance to go to the Airlines twenty years ago, the starting pay for young pilots at the time was about $18K. That might be big money to you it wouldn't have paid the bills. Even today, pilots starting pay is very low, but for the younger pilots it is worth it if they can get a 20 year career completed. Keep trying.

Wrong. College football is amateur athletics and always has been.
NFL football is professional football and always has been.

Making money is thanks to the TV contracts won for the universities after the OU, UGA lawsuit. It isnt the product. It is a byproduct of our times.

You are arguing that it is an amateur sport, but then you show all the stipends that the athletes receive ? We can agree that the athletes are receiving pay that no other average student receives and by calling it a stipend doesn't change that it is a salary. What we are arguing about is that pay structure is totally beneficial toward the schools and short change the athletes. Not quit child labor, but the cost/revenue ratio might trend that way.

No. It isn't a salary. The students in the academies get a salary. Student athletes get a stipend. It is better than a salary in that it isn't taxed to the student or payroll employer.

It isn't a salary. It isn't a pay structure. These are people. But they are not employees. It still involves amateur athletics.

You are so lost. This thread has jumped the shark.
