There are a couple Georgia posters (don't remember who specifically) that live in Chatham county. One of the islands I believe. You might should post on the SEC OT to see if they'll help with particulars of the area.
I've never spent more than a day at a time in Mobile so can't offer comparisons, but Savannah is a cool little city. Go there several times a year and have friends that live there. I'd definitely explore it. There's more to it than beautiful squares and candy kitchens
. But there is a notable element of crime specifically in certain areas.
4-hr access to Atlanta, 2 hr access to Jacksonville.
