I hate the Big Ten, but I can understand those rankings.

I think everyone would agree that Ohio State is a top 10 team. Ditto for Michigan now that Harbaugh has his players for the most part. Penn State came on strong last year and has quite a few returning starters from a team won the Big Ten and almost won the Rose Bowl. I think most would agree on those three being in the top 10. The outlier is Wisconsin - I'll admit that I don't know much about them going into this year - but they're a solid program year in and year out.

So yeah, at face value, it's laughable that the Big Ten would have 4 top 10 teams, but it's understandable when you actually dig in a bit. Michigan plays Florida in week 1, and Ohio State plays Oklahoma in week 2, so we'll find out about them pretty quickly.

ETA - Wisconsin's schedule is absolute trash. They might go 11-1 this year.

And therein lies the answer. The Big Ten is tremendously top heavy, and always has been. They have four teams that are apt to go 12-0, 11-1, 10-2, and 9-3. Those records will put all four in the Top 10.
