I wonder if that is just a safety net signing for NE.

If they decide they can get a starter thru a trade or in the draft, I wonder how much they owe him if they still cut him sometime this year? Is he guaranteed the 14m?

I just don't see NE going thru another year with Cam as the QB...

If he is the starter on game one next season, I will be totally shocked

Not sure you pay Cam 14m to be a backup

That is if he hits all incentives. Base salary is $1.5M.

Makes sense. I saw an early take that his new deal was basically the old deal without the incentives.

Back to lanier’s point. That puts Cam in back-up range

I think they paid him something similar this past year. Like a million then a lot or incentives. I loved him at Auburn but I think that dude is done (Actually been done) as a NFL QB. He is broken

Agree Lanier. Everything I have read, I think he is a great club house leader (doesn’t always come across on the sideline/field) and Pats want that presence as well.

the base is a little more than last year. 1.5m vs 1m. and he gets a signing bonus of 1.5, so he is guaranteed 3m this year and up to 5m w/ roster bonus, then potentially 9m for making different goals team/personal.

I am surprised he was willing to stay, and since he was healthy, not try to be a bona fide starter with another team.

Either he is getting no other feelers from other teams, or he still thinks his best shot is w NE.

No way, NE is going into next season w/ just Cam and Stidham again. They HAVE to finagle a high draft pick to go get their future QB or they are going to sign a more passing established QB veteran from somewhere.

If anything it adds to another year in the league which increases his NFL retirement pension. Best case scenario this year is he starts and the Pats gets another WR.

With the amount of money that Newton has made over the years and he is still probably getting some nice cheddar from endorsements and investments, I cant imagine this salary means a lot to him. You have to feel like he is either holding on or just does not want to fade away. The likelihood of him turning his football career around at this point seems pretty unlikely.

I do really enjoy coming back to this shitty forum and seeing that the shitty ingrates are still shitty ingrates.

Stability is kinda comforting.

I wonder if he is hoping to stay in the league just long enough to hook on with a team (even as a backup/bench rider) to get a ring.

Not many folks can say they have a Heisman/MNC/NFL MVP/Super Bowl.

Cam has help this season

- OLB Matt Judon
- TE Jonnu Smith
“capping off 2020 with 41 catches and eight touchdowns. After two years of not having any threat at the tight end position, this is a strong move by the Patriots to solidify the spot”

- DB Jalen Mills
- NT Davon Godchaux
- OL Trent Brown
- WR Nelson Agholor
“The consistent receiver had a productive season in Las Vegas, posting 48 catches and tying a career-high with eight touchdowns.”

- WR Kendrick Bourne
“The four-year veteran is coming off a career-high 49 catches for 669 yards and two touchdowns after emerging as an undrafted rookie and sustaining his roster spot with San Francisco”

Pats also signed former Arkansas dude and San Diego Charger Hunter Henry. Two good TEs that Cam has now.

Kerryon claimed by the Eagles. They have Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard returning, 7 RBs total.
