The city of Auburn is kicking into high gear its efforts to improve downtown parking, which may include purchasing the Baptist Student Center on North College Street. “As part of our plan, we have been working to acquire the Baptist Student Union property on North College and we have been working with Auburn Bank to lease some of their property to provide parking for the downtown employees,” Interim city manager Jim Buston wrote in a memo to members of the city council. “Both of these acquisitions are still in the negotiation process, so they are not yet ready to be brought to Council for your approval. However, I wanted to let you know of our plans at this juncture.”

Sad news. I spent many hours at that student center as a freshman and sophomore at Auburn.
