I got his autograph in the late 90s at at a razorback football game in the stands and he pointed out Brandon Dean and Brandon Davis out to me so I can get their autograph too. It was their freshman year @arkansas?

Here's a CSB copied from another board:

quote:

Here is a true story told to me by a former coach who won a lot of high school football games, and was a very good friend of Coach Broyles' right hand man, Wilson Matthews.

There was a national coaches convention in Texas. Coach Broyles was one of the keynote speakers. This was in the mid '60's, right after we won the MNC. Coach Broyles was placed in one of the penthouse rooms of the nice hotel the clinic was being held in. A bunch of coaches pooled their money, and they hired a prostitute and paid her $500 to go to Coach Broyles' room. $500 in the mid sixties was a lot, and I mean lot of money. It would almost buy a new car.

The woman was paid half the money under the condition that she would assure Coach Broyles nobody would ever know about this, but that a rich man wanted to honor him for his success. She would receive the rest after she returned to the group to let them know he was happy about it. They all bet on whether he would let her in the room. Seems like 12 guys said he would, and 3 said he wouldn't.

She was to meet the guys at breakfast the next morning to settle things. She was back to the bar in 15 minutes. She told them Coach Broyles had politely refused. She claims she assured him, and even pleaded with him that nobody would know. He told her, "ma'am, I would know, and I could not live with myself if I was unfaithful to my wife."

She got the rest of her money, and left them in the bar.

He was a true role model. God bless the memory of J. Frank Broyles.
