The 2017 college football recruiting cycle featured dozens of 5-star prospects, hundreds of 4-stars and a massive collection of 3-star talents for programs around the nation.
But where were the highest concentrations of that talent? And which teams prioritized and enjoyed the most success in a given state?
Everyone can point to the high school hotbeds of California, Florida and Texas for elite players, and rightfully so. They consistently showcase elite recruits. Just two other states had multiple 5-star prospects, according to Scout's 2017 rankings, resulting in a congested pack of states fighting for recognition.
To find the top 25 states in the 2017 class, we separated every player with at least a 3-star rating. Then, a point system (three for 3-stars, four for 4-stars, five for 5-stars) formulated the final score.
Junior-college prospects and transfers were not included in the list. American Samoa and Washington D.C. were also calculated, but neither finished in the top 25.

I'm shocked Arkansas didn't make this list. Always fighting an uphill battle

I see someone has downvoted both of our posts. I'm going out on a limb and predicting they cheer for LSU.

Ole Miss fans should know there's talent in Illinois. Hint. Hint.

Alabama and Illinois ranked too high. Louisiana ranked too low.

It is really strange when someone downvotes someone making fun of themselves.

Has BR gotten better? I just can't take them seriously.

They have been pretty good for a couple of years now. Getting bought out by CNN meant they had to get their shite together.

Florida is always high but no doubt IMG helps those rankings with thw national attraction to highly rated 5 star and 4 stars that leave there home states and go to that school. Whats impressive is Texas even with a large amount of their highest rated going to IMG still beat out Florida.

IMG is a drop in the bucket of the overall depth of a state like Florida.

That may be true, there arent many 5 stars overall each year and having 3 or 4 that you wouldn't be having in that state otherwise gives a bump of some sort.

These are based on one year of recruiting rankings? Obviously if we looked at real stats over a significant period of time New Jersey Pennsylvania Lousiana South Carolina would be much higher Alabama Illinois Tennessee Indiana would be much lower

They must've rightfully lumped north la in with bama. Legit list if so.

Alabama at #6 and Louisiana at #8 is very impressive. I knew there was a lot of talent in both states, but didn't realize they would rank that high.

This is a one year assesment. No way alabama is a better state for football talent than louisiana over a long period of time per capita...certainly not illinois. Saban recruits louisiana hard for a reason, he knows this state is a goldmine. That, and he knows he has to try and keep lsu from locking the state down completely bc that would be bad news for bama and everybody else.
