Playing qb behind Bama's line?
I mean hurts did it, and that kid has no business throwing a football. How hard can handing the ball off, throwing short routes and long 50/50 balls? He reminds me of Nick Marshall
Dobbs had better stats and played behind a shittier line. Sometimes it really is just a matter of popularity.

I would have been fine with Dobbs winning it, but Dobbs was mediocre at best against good teams in totality.
Let's not act like Dobbs was some sort of star quarterback all season. Half of the Tennessee fans wanted him benched after the South Carolina game and then he went wild against Tennessee Tech, Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt.
He had 11 TDS and 1 INT vs those 4, he had 14 TD and 9 INT heading into Tennessee Tech.

Yea, can't wait to have another true freshman starting who has to spend an entire year adjusting to the speed of the game and throwing to spots. Sounds like a fantastic idea. Tua would be adjusting from Hawaii public high school defenses to Florida State, LSU and Auburn. I'm sure he'd just fly right through it with no issues
Quick, somebody tell me the last true freshman QB who immediately appeared to be in charge of the offense and able to throw route trees?
Jalen has to improve a lot in his passing, both accuracy wise and reading things. The biggest jump for this is usually between the first and second year, especially for a true freshman. If he isn't better next year, then it will be time to start wondering and thinking about other options. Until then, this is silliness.
Hurts went through bowl practice last year, spring practice, fall practice and 13 games before playing two of his worst games of the year. Wasn't like he didn't have any experience then.
Stewart had one of the best passes in the game and hasn't played QB since HS, 3 years ago. Stewart had someone in his face when he threw the pass and they had a guy pretty close to our receiver as well.

You are kidding right?
Again, go find me the 5 best true freshman QB seasons since 2000. It doesn't happen, it's too hard.
If he shows up in September and hasn't figured it out, I'll worry. And that's possible, but I'm not going to make career assumptions based on a true freshman QB season.

Yeah but you also said Jeremy Johnson was going to be better than Nick Marshall and the best passer Gustav has had at Auburn.

No, I'm not kidding.
Any FR on 'ship to a major college program should be able to pass better than that after bowl prep, spring, fall and almost an entire year of college ball.
No excuse for it.
Why weren't any of the other QB's ready?

That's a totally separate question that is 100% fair to ask.
But that isn't Jalens fault.

Guy was a complete liability and Lane Kiffin did an incredible job of masking his many limitations in the passing game. If he doesn't improve, Alabama might start over with another guy.

Just because our OL is better than L6U's does not mean it was a great one
Curious why you cherry picked LSU, Alabama has the best offensive line in college football and better than any other team.
Hurts is a great player but behind a offensive line similar to say Kentucky he would not have been mentioned as the SEC offensive player of the year.
The BCS loss could have been more to do with having a new OC than anything else.
Lack of talent had nothing to do with BAMA losing to Clemson. Alabama clearly was the most dominate team in college football and losing the game does not change this it only means you did not win the title

Yeah but you also said Jeremy Johnson was going to be better than Nick Marshall
I even started a thread stating Auburn would miss Nick Marshall even with Jeremy Johnson starting in 2015, before the train went off the rails.

Clemson had more first downs, a better 3rd down conversion rate, more total yards, more passing yards, less penalties and more time of possession.

Agree - I'm just not ready to assume he won't like some seem to be. If he doesn't, another young guy will get a shot.

Agree, no arguments.
Hurts was not ready to be an SEC passer. Most high school QBs aren't. He was thrown to the fire. However, he had other skills that helped mask that and an OC who did a great job playing to his strengths.
He has a year under is belt and now a full off season to use that experience to improve. Many like him have (Lamar Jackson, RG3, Braxton Miller, etc). If he does, great. If he doesn't, it'll be time to worry.

quote:Surprisingly enough, both were bad passers (although Nick Marshall was better - he wasn't as sheltered with play-calling and overcame a worse quarterback coach) in their first seasons, and both went on to win SEC Championships while losing in the National Championship. Both were also very good runners, with Nick Marshall being better there, too.

You should post that all on the Bama board. Would love to read the responses.

I think most understand Jalen wasn't ready to be an SEC passer. He wasn't going to succeed when things broke down or we were in clear passing downs.
The problem in the title game was he was also bad on simple stuff, stuff he'd been ok at earlier in the year. That then led to bad situations, which snowballed.

If Bama had such a good OL, we would have controlled the ball, given our defense a rest, and won the title game by double digits. But instead...
Your QB couldn't pass the ball so you lost . Just like you did when Sims was your QB and he couldn't pass the ball.

Sims was much better at passing than Jalen. Blake had a beautiful deep ball.
