Rivals saying that freeze and lingo met in Texas last week and the deal was all but signed.

Well guys here it was a good run.... Freeze will be gone in 3 years..... This will be the same offense as last season. Beat up inferior competition but when we get someone who can punch back we won't be able to control the ball enough to stay balanced. Really hope crime dawg teaches gap assisngmemt and coverage so we can party in Shreveport next year

Maybe 2.....by that time Joey Freshwater will be rehabbed for the SEC and Ole Miss Coeds.

If freeze was given as much money to spend for these coordinator hires as was reported, and all we get out of it is a position coach and a shitty FCS coordinator, that would really sum up 2016 in a nutshell. Lots to work with, then underachieving spectacularly with it.

I've been against the Longo decision since last Friday. He runs Air Raid and I'm not convinced Freeze will keep his hands off. He only has experience at smaller CFB. He is not a splash hire and unproven @ the D1 level. I have no clue how he recruits and he could potentially be a poor fit for recruiting of Cam Akers.
That being said:
1. The NCAA angle is not to be underestimated. We don't have the pull right now with Freeze coming off a losing season and the upcoming sanctions. It's hard to ask a high profile or up-and-coming OC to uproot their family to take the gig where the HC could be gone NEXT YEAR. It's a huge risk.
2. Longo has a good statistical record. Can't deny the production and even his running stats are solid.
3. Cumbie isn't coming and isn't a real threat (reasons posted earlier).
4. OC is far less important than the DC hire, that Freeze has to get right.
5. Werner wasn't going to recruit, so even considering him keeping his job was not possible.
Longo is the epitome of meh, but there is some upside.

If Freeze goes 3-9 I still think we give him another year.

This is coming from the perception of a OC that has to leave his sure thing job and roll the dice with a coach under NCAA investigation and a losing season. Coaches know how fickle CFB is.
You don't get that many years to fix it in modern CFB. I don't think he'll get canned either, but it's not a slam dunk.

If Freeze goes 3-9 he is on the first thing smoking.
Matter of fact he won't go 3-9 because if it's 3-7 he is already gone! He won't make it to the end of the season.

Yeah if at some point next year we have a terrible record & then find out it's impossible to make a bowl (3-7 for example) the calling for his head will be too much.

I cant do this guys! I cant relive 2010 & 2011!. I won't do it!

I wasn't expecting Cumbie or anyone else big, but I thought we could get someone better than an FCS OC.

Get rid of a Sun Belt staff to hire a FCS staff lol
Goes well with our Belhaven compliance department.

I have no idea if this has been talked about but Sam Houston State didn't play anyone good in their regular season except Central Arkansas. Ill list below the records of their opponents this year.
2-9
3-8
4-7
5-7
3-8
2-9
5-6
4-8
6-5
1-10
10-3 Central Arkansas!
His numbers are inflated because they played just awful teams.

I'm not saying you are wrong or that these teams were any good, but southland teams tend to play FBS schools in non conference which are guaranteed losses
Posted on 12/13/16 at 1:10 pm to SLUrebel
Yeah I am sure the 6 teams that went 4-7 or worse weren't really bad they just played FBS teams.

I still say I'd rather have Jame madison's OC if we are stooping to the FCS level. They beat 8-4, 9-3, 10-2, and 12-0 teams this season.

Yeah why not north Dakota states?
