AU's rushing performance compared to S&P+ rush defense

I was curious on how well AU did on the ground against differently ranked rush defenses. I wanted to know how we did against comparable defenses to Oklahoma via S&P+. I ranked each rush defense in a tier based off their S&P+ rushing defense rank.
Tier 1
1.) Alabama - 26 carries 66 yds 2.5 avg
9.) LSU - 49 carries 154 yds 3.1 avg
1-1 vs Tier 1 - 75 carries 220 yds 2.9 avg
Tier 2
24.) Georgia - 32 carries 127 yds 3.97 avg TD
32.) Clemson - 41 carries 87 yds 2.1 avg TD
36.) Arkansas State - 62 carries 462 yds 7.5 avg 3 TD
1-2 vs Tier 2 - 135 carries 676 yds 5.0 avg 5 TD (obviously the Arkansas State game makes this look nicer)
Tier 3
51.) Mississippi State - 56 carries 228 yds 4.1 avg 3 TD
52.) Vanderbilt - 45 carries 271 yds 6.0 avg TD
56.) Texas A&M - 54 carries 236 yds 4.4 avg 2 TD
64.) Ole Miss - 32 carries 307 yds 9.6 avg 3 TD
3-1 vs Tier 3 - 187 carries 1042 yds 5.6 avg 9 TD
Tier 4
115.) Arkansas - 57 carries 543 yds 9.5 avg 7 TD
128.) UL Monroe - 64 carries 410 yds 6.4 avg 5 TD
2-0 vs Tier 4 - 121 carries 953 yds 7.9 avg 12 TD
So against top 40 rush defenses life wasn't great. Granted in the 2 games we won we played one healthy QB the majority of the time which obviously has a big affect but our rushing attack just wasn't as dominant. However against the bottom half tiers we were nearly unstoppable.
So where does Oklahoma rank in rush defense according to S&P+? 55th. Putting them in Tier 3 where we averaged 47 carries 261 yds 5.6 avg 2 TD. I don't know how healthy White will be or how well our defense can hold up to this passing attack but I feel pretty confident this will be a game no matter what because we will have a tremendous success on the ground.

surely playing good rush defenses makes it harder to run, of course....but it just so happened that during our toughest part of the schedule we were most banged up with White and KP out. Then v. Clemson we had that BS QB carousel gameplan and didn't even give KP 1 carry. Doesn't excuse it, per se, but it gives some context to the stats.

Great work.....
Wait
Arkansas State has a tier two rush defense along with the likes of Georgia and Clemson because of one defensive rank? Hopefully these collegiate students on our thread are learning how to not make dumb conclusions based on incomplete information.
Great try anyway

If we can run on OU (the perceived strength of their defense), we can take advantage of their bad secondary.
Personally I like the matchup.

I thought it was the other way around...their DL was weak and secondary relatively stronger.

Only Texas Tech has given up more passing yards the Big 12 this season.
Posted on 12/8/16 at 8:32 am to lowspark12
Well crap. If we don't get SW back, we won't even get to exploit their weakness.

Auburn should be able to neutralize their perceived strength on defense... OU is giving up over 5 ypc to Power 5 teams. It's hard to really judge these big 12 stats though... Do all the defenses suck bc of great offenses, or the other way around? (Same could be said about the SEC in reverse).
I guess we'll find out on the 2nd.

First off frick you
Second, the Arkansas State rating is what I would call an outlier. It looks nicer because they ended up finishing year winning 7 of their last 8 and no one scoring more than 25 on them so ya their defense got better but probably because of shittier competition. However I think it's clear the rest of the defenses are appropriately ranked and it appears we produce the same type of production against each tier. So Oklahoma's rush defense which is actually the better part of their defense is in a tier where we have had lots of success on the ground. That tells me we will make this a game no matter the QB situation because we will control the line of scrimmage
Finally at least I try to bring something to this board worth a shite instead of fricking up every thread

I'm proud of the bastid . He's really learning how to stick it to the man. Whenever his balls drop, he just might turn out to be a fine man.

Thanks for your service. Where did you earn it?
While I am not proud of it I doubt you work more hours than I do. Wish I worked smarter.

Afghanistan, and I work 6 and 1 a week.

My oldest got his combat medal at a COP in Afghanistan on his first trip. Second tour seemed to just piss him off. What branch?
I am old and have no idea what 6 and 1 means. At 56 I work a "full time" job as an employee but also run my own company as well. Weird situation but requires about 65 work hours a week. Unfortunately much of that is riding a desk and computer. Would not have it another way.
