That clearly wasn't the call coming out of the timeout, Harper called his own number

let Bryce shoot it

Bryce was set up to be a backup option 3PT dish. We set him up with an off ball screen

So there is some talk going around that the transfer Murray, who sat out this year, is the "natural replacement for TJ Dunans" according to Pearl

That makes no f'ing sense. Murray played PF/C at Presbyterian and had zero game beyond the arc. He is a post player

Dunans is a slasher from the perimeter who can dribble and brick open layups

Well Purifoy was also "like Lebron James" too. I'll believe it when I see it.

His ankle clearly affected him and you can see by the stats/playing style.

So high ankle sprains have estimated recovery time 4-6 weeks according to this article

Average Purifoy 2FG Attempts Per Game

Pre Inj - 4 Att/Game
"Recovery Period 8 Games"- 0.75 Att/Game
Last 5 Games - 5 Att/Game

Purifoy past couple games after "recovery time" is clearly playing at a higher level offensively/defensively

I agree he's playing better, but Bruce definitely oversold how good he is.

From a talent/athleticism standpoint, he is that good. He is just more of a project than Bruce lead on.

He honestly just looks like someone who hasn't played enough basketball.

I meant as good as Bruce/everyone was selling

No one is Lebron James athletic other than Lebron. MJ was better, but he wasn't as athletic/talented

So weird little stat about opponent FT% vs AU

In 18 games vs SEC opponents

80+% - 8 games (9 if you want to round 79.4% MSU up)
85+% - 5 games

12/18 games, opponents shot better than season FT% avg

Interesting.

Possible explanations:
1) Opposing players/coaches are smarter and goad our freshmen into fouling their best FT shooters
2) SEC officials hate Pearl and intentionally call every touch on opposing teams good FT shooters
3) dumb luck. Even the bad shooters hit FT against us. Auburn basketball is cursed

Needs analysis to see if the whole team shoots well or if the high % shooters get more FT than normal.

He said something like, "he's as close to Lebron as we've had". I just don't get the comparison at all. Heron is the better player of the two.

He probably just meant in the type of player Purifoy is. Both are athletic stretch forwards that can handle the ball and shoot

Purifoy is 6'7" 230
Lebron is 6'8" 250

Now that I've heard some context to the quote it doesn't sound like Pearl is saying Purifoy is the next Lebron or our Lebron or anything like that, just that he can play a similar role in our lineup position wise because he's in the same mold.

quote:

Heron is the better player of the two.

Obviously, but Heron is better because of his basketball IQ. I think Purifoy is more athletic and physically has a higher ceiling. But I don't think Purifoy has what it takes mentally to ever reach that potential.

KT Harrell was a better player than both Heron/Purifoy but he didn't have NBA talent.

As Bowl pointed out, Bruce didn't say Purifoy was Lebron but simply he fit that mold of PF who has the ability to play like a SG/SF

From a talent perspective, Purifoy is the most likely to become a NBA lottery pick on this team

Improved shot selection + finding his stroke has been huge for @_Bwb11 . Past 9 games, Shooting 57% 3FG on 49 attempts + 50+% in 7/9 games

Bruce giving chins tweet some recognition..

I think Austin Wiley is the most likely..

I don't think anybody on out team is good enough to be a lottery pick. Wiley doesn't have the right skill set at 6'11" to ever be even if he develops completely. He's not versatile enough. I see him as eventually a late first rounder, mid 1st round if he ends up dominating in college.
