You don't think it's possible that they used that for motivation? Plus Gus himself confirmed a pretty significant part of the story.
UT had a losing streak to UF that went back over multiple coaching staffs and none of the players were a part of it at the beginning. Do you think that stopped them from using it as motivation?

Too bad that they didn't use losing to clemson in 2012 for motivation.
Or getting absolutely demolished by Texas A&M in Auburn in 2012 for motivation.
No, now's the time when they really cared. So they reached back to years when they were in high school and remembered Auburn losing every SEC game to finally get motivation for fricking Mississippi State.
