You clod, the University of Texas campus is NOT 40 acres. That's just the original part.
UT Austin got an exemption from the top 10 percent rule.
Aggy president said that was racist and they are going full steam ahead, 77 percent acceptance rate and 75,000 students.
Here's what the smarmy west coast fig aggy prez has to say:

Here's what the smarmy west coast fig aggy prez has to say:
quote:
A&M has always received fewer automatic admittees, but the number is growing. School officials say they are fine with that.
“If you are really critical of the 10 Percent Rule, what you are saying is that we don’t want the kids from the [less competitive schools],” said A&M President Michael Young.
Fighting the rule, Young said, sends the message to those schools that “we would prefer to have an admissions process that doesn’t require us to admit you.”
“I don’t know that I would leap to join a school that communicated that to me,” Young said. “But I do think you are going to succeed here [at A&M]. The data show that.”

Ha. That article discusses Samuell High School here in Dallas, where I did some volunteer work. I noticed when I was doing it that some of the smartest kids were talking about A&M.
I have to tell you, especially after you read that article, A&M has probably done well for itself in the long run by embracing the 10% rule. It gets its diversity numbers up without having to get sidelined dealing with the affirmative action issues.
People in Texas who bitch about the 10% rule should look to the underlying problem. Making the shitty rural and minority high schools better.

After 27 games:
Dennis Franchione: 13-14 (1 winning season)
Charlie Strong: 13-14 (0 winning seasons)
Mike Sherman: 12-15 (0 winning seasons)
If Strong goes 1-1 vs. Cal and Oklahoma State, he will be tied with BOTH Franchione and Sherman at 14-15 after 29 games.
Projecting further, in order for Charlie Strong not to be tied with BOTH Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman after 38 games (19-19), he has to go 9-4 or better this season.
