There are not many SEC teams that haven't beaten another SEC team this century. Even Vandy has a couple wins against us. Kentucky has one too.

We don't play you every year so why the frick you care? And you're lucky as frick you got us in 13. Either last year or this year would be resounding L's for you.

Resounding you say.
The only resounding aspect of Tennessee football is the inability of the offensive line. Everything else is average at best.

I for one hope Tennessee makes it back. It's fun when both Auburn and Tenner are putting an L on Bama's schedule.

Like some other teams, UT has had a period of poor coaching and also the leadership above that level was found wanting.

Bammer had Shula, Dubose and Franchione. Bammer was 3-8 one year not too long ago. Bammer was also forced to forfeit or vacate a large number of games. A 17-17 tie played at Legion Field was later forfeited to UT.

UGA had Goff and Donnen. Donnen was fired even though Coach Dooley endorsed him.

Auburn had skullduggery involving Coach Tuberville that messed them up, also a major grade fixing scandal involving 190 athletes that made the New York Times. A very enthusiastic professor fixed grades for every athlete he taught.

Florida had a major cheating scandal but recovered pretty well of course. OTOH Florida has had decades of bad football and little success.

UT had in that period 8 or 9 game win streaks against both UGA and Bammer. UF not so much. UT beat a very game Auburn team in the 1997 SECCG.

When Mike Hamilton was named AD in 2003 I recall being slightly uneasy with the hire. This guy had no executive experience at all. UT didn’t go outside the university. This drone and idiot just slid into the seat after being assistant this, and chief of that of that for a long time within the UT system.

Hiring Lane Kiffin, who was sure to bolt back to USC at the first opportunity, and then a panic hire of Derek Dooley were the result.

Hamilton was a very good facilities guy and fund raiser and the facilities show it.

UT’s success in the ‘90’s, I believe, stemmed from the synergy found in Coach Fulmer and Coach Cutcliffe’s relationship. They were and are very good friends; they were junior coaches together, they went to the recruiting trail together.

With Coach Cutt on the staff, UT was very successful; when he left for Ole Miss there was a decline.
After being mistreated at OM (but coaching Eli Manning) he came back to UT and was on the staff in ’07 when UT last won the East. Then he left for Duke and has been pretty successful.

UT not so much.

’08 Fulmer floundering. People may not recall that he recruited Tadj Boyd. Boyd was still willing to come to UT even with Kiffin incoming. LK told him there was no place for him at UT.

’09 Kiffin beat UGA and USCe. I was at both of those games. Bammer, they played tough and eventual NC Bammer did not score a TD in that game, winning 12-10.

’10 Dooley
’11 Dooley
’12 Dooley

One of the factoids that came out late in Dooley’s fraudulent tenure at UT was that he was doing nothing to recruit the Chattanooga area at all and was in fact pretty much dismissive of actual recruiting in general. His buy-out paid him $108K per -month- for 4 years as I recall.

So that left a bare cupboard for Coach Jones.

UT also paid Coach Fulmer a large severance/buy out.

The former AD Hamilton got death threats. He wrote his own severance package. Seems like it was $450K a year for 3 years.

The newer AD, Hart, besides looking a lot like Rameses the Great’s mummy, was hateful to coach Summitt when her illness was announced but apparently not too bad over all.

Of interest, two of UT’s best AD’s – Coach Woodruff and Coach Dickey were both coaches at Florida.

Another factoid of interest. Steve Spurrier applied for the HC job at UT in 1977, but of course they picked Johnny Majors who I never liked. A Spurrier coached Duke team beat UT in 1982, I believe.
