The men's sports in particular have been awful, and I'm not even just counting the big-3. We've finished near or at the bottom of the SEC in some of the non-revenue sports (and the revenue ones as well).
He is not a businessman by any means. He's a dumb good-ole-boy bumbling his way through a million dollar business.
I absolutely don't trust him to make a reasonable fire or hire of another football coach.

he already voiced his approval for Malzahn going forward

Oh, yeah. I thought you meant he gave him a ultimatum (publicly).

If anything the notice of approval is actually a sign that a coach may soon be fired.

What if he goes 6-6 or 7-5?

They look like a 6-6 ball club this year.
No, they don't. Talent is there, QB is the ? at this point. We will sink or swim depending on that position.

7-5 (80% chance he stays)
6-6 (40% chance he stays)
5-7 (he gone)

Like I said above, if he keeps them close then I think he gets another year. Auburn needs some stability, but there's no excuse to miss bowl games with that many resources and talent.

Not sure, but if 6-6 happens, that'll be 3 straight years of decline. I'll homer here, but I think AU will be better than some think. They've recruited very well, OL/DL will be a strength, and the D should be improved overall. If they get anything above what happened last year at QB, they could make a run towards 9 or 10 wins.

All I'm trying to say is that as an Athletic Director running a multi-million dollar operation, he is doing his job. Making money, graduating student-athletes, staying out of NCAA trouble and operating the programs within compliance. He's not on the field coaching or out on the recruiting trail. He made a good hire in Chiz (2010 BCSNC) and he made a good fire in Chiz (2012 shite season), he made a good hire in Gus (2013 SEC champs), he made a good hire in softball and looks like the Pearl hire will be a good one.
Didn't he just get a contact extension within the last year? Someone in a position of authority at AU thinks he's doing his job.
