Greg Robinson was 1st rounder in 2014 draft.
Auburn had veteran offensive line in 2010.
Teams win NCs with average qb play but teams that are great always have good OL and DL play.
Qb play doesn't mean jack if OL sucks.

Example of how important OL play is.
Peyton Manning in Superbowl a couple years ago, Seattle made one of the best qbs in history look like crap. Why? OL got dominated all night.
Last year Superbowl
Superman Cam looked human. Why? His OL got whipped all night.

Definitely! Gus is still learning on the job.

The SEC West is a tough neighborhood and AU has to face LSU/UA/UGA every year. I'm not sure the AU Family expects to consistently win 10 games a year, it's just too tough.

Would they be satisfied with averaging 8 wins/year and making to ATL twice in a decade with one super year of getting to the playoffs?

If Gus has a losing record he is done. I just cannot see any scenario where au people see optimism with him if that happens

Didn't the AD say he would be there for a while?

Yes. He doubled down but I dont think Jacobs survives a bad year either.

Not much else the dumbass could say. It's hard to recruit when your AD shows any lack of support.
I think a bowl game saves his job as long as he doesn't lose any games badly.

And no, he won't survive a losing record. There's no excuse for that given the 'talent' Auburn has been recruiting.

Gus is never more dangerous then when his back is against the wall but I'm not sure he has the players to pull off a big run through the season. They look like a 6-6 ball club this year.

Which, naturally, means that we will almost certainly see Auburn in the playoffs at the end of the season.

I think AU may surprise people this year. I don't mean surprise in the 2010 or 2013 sense, but surprise in the sense that people thinking they go 6-6 and get blown out a lot may be in for a surprise.

I think AU is likely 8-4, but possibly 9-3. I also think if the get average to good QB play then they likely won't be "blown out" (17+ points) in any game.

If he gets fired I assume it won't be until after the season.

Pretty much the only times when a coach is fired during the season is if the team starts 0-8 or if a coach was on a super flaming seat when the season began. (Ala Al Golden and Mike London last year, Muschamp in 2014 and Ron Zook in 2004.) Malzahn is on a hot seat right now but not quite like those coaches were.

All 4 of those coaches were practically fired by their respective fanbases before their last season began. The same can't be said of Malzahn.

Not that I know of. Just saying if your AD comes out and says 'Gus has to win 8 games', then that's not showing confidence. Regardless of what his expectations are, he has to say that Gus is the guy and keep him in 4 year contract or risk those questions from coming up on the recruiting trail.

I was having fun saying Bama would win 49-0
Honestly think AU first month will determine the way the season will go if they compete and go 2-2 they could win 8 games if they get smoked by Clemson and LSU could indicate another bad season.

I don't understand this line of thinking.

Auburn's Athletic Department makes money, apparel/vendor revenue is very lucrative, they are graduating student-athletes at an acceptable level, and they are not in the NCAA cross-hairs in any sport. So they are running a clean, profitable overall operation.

Looks like Jay Jacobs is doing his job to me.
