Should just go to the coach of the best team. Who cares if they sucked last year?

So you'd be okay with Nick Saban winning COTY practically every year?

Why not? A coach doesn't perform his job for a given year all in that year. Four or five years of recruiting before that is also part of his performance. After recruiting for four or five years, if he has the best players, that means he's done a better job than any other coach in the lead-up to the year in question and all that remains is to go out and perform with it. When he wins the NC, that's about as well as anyone can perform. So, how can anyone be said to have done a better job?
