From worst to first in the SEC. Simply amazing the turnaround that he accomplished in the past 12 months.

2015 - 24-30 (8-22) last in the SEC
2016- 40-14-1 (21-9) SEC champs

People say this, but isn't that the point of starting young guys/having a terrible year? You went to Omaha the year before, start young guys and suck, but then get back on track a year later.

I agree. Remarkable turnaround. Has never happened before IIRC.

Should just go to the coach of the best team. Who cares if they sucked last year?

he won't win it, nor am I saying he should, but this may arguably be Mainieri's best coaching job since he's been in Baton Rouge. LSu replaced 8 position players and had it's ace, Alex Lange, as well as Poche struggle for huge chunks of the year, and LSU was still somehow able to put things together and put themselves in position to play for a national seed in the SECT and have all but guaranteed a host site for a regional. Remember, they also started 2-6 in the league and closed out with a record of 17-5.

Not sure what last year has to do with it. I'm pretty sure state was a unanimous top 15 preseason. South Carolina was on no ones radar and is about to be a national seed.

Getting rid of Butch Thompson turned it around for him.
