I believe I, an old man, could coach Tennessee to host a Super Regional

What a team, to be managed by a moron. If I was a Vol I would be complaining all the time. One more pitcher and better fundamentals and the Vols would be a top 3-5 team.
They can knock the cover off the ball, but the players look lost in the field. And some of the plays called from the bench--too many to list.

Hope you don't mind not being paid.
Because they sure as shite couldn't pay you.

I just don't think we'll ever care enough about baseball to get a top notch coach.

That and the being able to afford a top notch coach situation, but anyway..

Took Delmonico for granted, Serrano sucks
Pretty sure the work of Larry Simcox is the only thing that could possibly (although hardly likely) keep Serrano in a job.

Tennessee had an above-average chance to win every game and took 0. It really is incredible seeing how well they hit the ball and can't win a game

In the end though, it is still college baseball.

Their hitting has improved dramatically this year with the new hitting coach. But the pitching is spotty at best and never seems to develop. And Serrano was supposed to be a pitching guru.

Well to be fair, we've had a lot of injuries

True. The lack of development of his pitchers has been apparent during the entire 5 years that he's been there. Puzzling.

Baseball coaches don't make shite compared to the other major sports.

Not sure why he hasn't been more successful with all the success he had on the west coast, it is a different style of baseball in SEC and a lot different I guess recruiting for him.

Recruiting and the fact that the SEC is absolutely loaded in baseball.
I mean, top to bottom, loaded.

It is pretty weird for me, because I grew up here with Tennessee having a good program.

When Serrano was hired he was viewed as a top notch coach. He just turned out to be s fraud, but it was definitely thought to be a great hire by Tennessee at the time

Agreed and he has had some VERY questionable calls on the base paths and just in general. Just like WTF moments

Serrano is a good coach caught in a bad situation. His weakness are amplified by being surrounded by Vanderbilt, South Carolina & North Carolina all being great programs and playing in the minefield that is the SEC in general. UT will let him go and he will go back out West and land on his feet somewhere in a good situation next year.
The top SEC baseball coaches do make very good money (VU supposedly pays Corbin over $1.1 mil a year & Maineri pushes over a million I think with extra compensation. Obviously they are going to make what football or even basketball do with the revenues those sports generate.

I think a lot of it has to do with Corbin getting who he wants in state, mostly pitching wise. That has a lot to do with UT not being very good.

it also has to doi with Serrano going after too many players that will never play college baseball. Reminds me a lot of Smoke Laval. It doesn't do you any good to sign a top class when so many of them never intended on going to college.

True, I know that has been another knock on him. He has had a few good pulls, but has mostly failed in that regard.
Even with UT's apathy towards baseball, I doubt Serrano survives the season.
