The coach? Their personal cell phone is open to review. Internal cell phone reviews led to two self reported violations of improper contact....one was allegedly a butt dial.

I'll admit I have no idea if recruits' cell phone are subject to such a request

Recruits aren't government employees. Their information isn't open to the public.

go phones, at least what i called a go phone, was a phone where my number would work if i lost or damaged my phone and needed a temporary replacement. prepaid phones are when you buy a phone that has a specified amount of minutes. when you use up your minutes, you buy more. prepaid phones don't require you to sign a contract.

i don't know, maybe they're the same thing and i just called the shitty temporary replacement a go phone

I do find it hilarious that they think "burner phones" is a thing now. Just goes show they watch far too much television.

The concept of giving a recruit a "burner phone" is pretty creepy. Not sure what the purpose would be unless it was to get around no contact periods or avoid running up a recruit's bill if they have a plan with limited minutes/text messaging/data. I guess it might make some guys feel appreciated and wanted to be issued a burner phone, but seems like it would freak a lot of people out.

That's the only logical reason I could see behind giving a recruit a phone.

Wouldn't that be a violation?

I imagine if a coach was shown to have given a recruit a "burner phone" it would be one of the highest level of violations a coach could make, perhaps besides lying to the NCAA.

You have an impermissible benefit (value of phone/prepaid card) and its use would hide an unknown amount of minor violations regarding recruit contact. The NCAA doesn't punish minor violations if the school self reports and deals with them by punishment guidelines but attempting to hide them to protect the coach from recruiting restrictions would probably be an ethics violation. I would see a show cause in that coaches future. I haven't heard anything about an allegation of this against Ole Miss so this is all hypothetical I guess. That would be a doozy though

I haven't really seen much about this other than what has been presented ITT.

Where did all this burner phone stuff come from?
